Wirtz involved: Liverpool wins without a superstar – top club fails

Without Mohamed Salah, who was temporarily banned after his angry speech, Liverpool FC has taken a small step out of the crisis. In the Champions League top game at Inter Milan, the Reds won 1-0 (0-0) late on thanks to Florian Wirtz. Shortly before the end, the substitute national soccer player had his jersey pulled by Inter’s Alessandro Bastoni in the penalty area, and referee Felix Zwayer decided on a penalty after viewing the video images. Ex-Leipzig player Dominik Szoboszlai (88th minute) converted this into the winning goal.
The Reds moved into the top group in the table for the time being. It remains to be seen whether superstar Salah will be back in the next premier class game. Coach Arne Slot had left the Egyptian out of the squad for the game in Italy because he had caused unrest at the weekend with clear criticism of the club and coach. The reason was the Egyptian’s recent lack of playing time.
Things are also going well for Tottenham Hotspur in the premier class. The Spurs won 3-0 (1-0) against Slavia Prague thanks to former Leipzig player Xavi Simons. An own goal from David Zima (26th minute) as well as goals from Mohammed Kudus (50th) and Xavi (79th) brought the victory. Coach Thomas Frank’s team is close behind Liverpool in the table.
Chelsea FC, on the other hand, is slipping a bit after the 1:2 (1:0) defeat at Atalanta Bergamo. João Pedro (25th) had given the English the lead. Gianluca Scamacca (55th) and Charles De Ketelaere (83rd) turned the game in favor of the Italians.
