The advance of the Russian troops proceeds in fits and starts. In the night from Saturday to Sunday, heavy artillery was sighted near Kiev, heavy fighting took place at Vasylkiv Air Force Base a few kilometers from the capital. An oil depot has caught fire at the base. Russian troops have been trying to take control of the base since Thursday.
The capital itself is still in Ukrainian hands. In the country’s second city, Kharkov, Russian troops marched into the streets early in the morning. There was still heavy fighting.
Foreign analysts believe that the Russians are frustrated by the fierce Ukrainian resistance.
