Mid-term conclusion:
VfL Wolfsburg played furiously a week after the 1:6 debacle in Dortmund and lead 5:0 after 45 minutes against Mainz 05! The wolves were the more active team from the start and took the lead early on due to the wind. When Tauer fouled Nmecha a little later and saw red for it, it was finally over for the guests. Max Kruse added a three-pack for the hosts who played freely, and wind also hit again. The Lower Saxony shoot the frustration out of their souls here, but it must also be said that the performance of the Mainz team is incredibly weak despite being outnumbered. The Rheinhessen are similar in their fate as the VfL a week ago in Dortmund. It got a lot quieter after the break, let’s see how things go today. See you soon!

The Mainz defense is just watching as Jonas Wind picks up the pace in midfield and lays it out to the left to Yannick Gerhardt. The guests from Mainz can play freely after being sealed in the class. Even if you don’t have to look in the rear-view mirror after the recent 0-0 win against Stuttgart, the 05ers still want to score points and, above all, finally convince away from home again. With a total of eight points away from home, Mainz 05 is the second-worst away team in the league. “There were good to decent phases in every game. We have to use them as a guide and at the same time clearly discuss that other phases were not good enough,” said coach Bo Svensson, who reacted to the pack in Dortmund with a Wolfsburg reaction expects: “We can expect a very difficult game. Wolfsburg will give it their all.”
19:51
After a good phase in February, VfL recently went downhill again. Four of the last five games were lost, most recently the Lower Saxony showed an indisputable performance at 1: 6 in Dortmund. “Every player, the team and all of us have a duty to give an answer on the pitch tomorrow, to show a reaction and thus come a big step closer to staying up,” said sports director Marcel Schäfer the day before the game. Coach Florian Kohfeldt prefers to look ahead after the “shock experience” at BVB. “Our big task now is to get those points. And we really want to do that on Friday night.”
19:42
A look at the staff: After the debacle in Dortmund, Florian Kohfeldt made only one forced change and brought in Jérôme Roussillon for the injured Maxence Lacroix. VfL should defensively switch to a back four. There are two changes to the guests. Marcus Ingvartsen and Leandro Barreiro start for Karim Onisiwo and Dominik Kohr (both bench). Alexander Hack is back in the squad after his ankle injury and is on the bench.
19:35
The conditions for this game could hardly be more different. The host wolves are still in the relegation battle and need every counter to avoid getting into trouble again. Mainz, on the other hand, sealed their relegation early this season and can tackle the game without any pressure. Since the chances are good that seventh place will be enough for Europe this season, the Rheinhessen, who are currently in ninth place, may even be able to look up again if a threesome succeeds today.
Hello and welcome to the 31st match day of the Bundesliga! VfL Wolfsburg will host 1. FSV Mainz 05 at 8:30 p.m. in the Volkswagen Arena!
