Mid-term conclusion:
After 45 minutes, the course seems to have been set long ago. Tottenham Hotspur leads 3-0 at home against Everton. The game didn’t seem to want to pick up speed at first, at first there was no indication at all of three goals. Without even marveling at a shot on goal, it was suddenly 1-0 after almost a quarter of an hour. An own goal by Michael Keane made that possible. The first shot on goal of this encounter then sat and led to the 2:0 just under three minutes later. The poisonous hosts countered happily and scored a third goal. The larger game shares therefore did not help the guests. Frank Lampard’s men just couldn’t finish it. Only one shot on goal by the Toffees was counted and it was a blocked attempt. Ultimately, Everton are well served with the result as Antonio Conte’s side had two or three more chances to clear things up.

45

21:49

Mason Holgate wants to uncompromisingly clear a high ball into his own sixteen and shoots his teammate Michael Keane in the face from about five meters. The defender kneels. However, there is a break and time to relax.

45

21:45

Official injury time (minutes): 2

43

21:45

Dominic Calvert-Lewin tries it on the right in the box. After a pass from Abdoulaye Doucouré, the striker shoots with his right foot but can’t find a gap. At least the team’s stats credit the first shot on goal.

41

21:45

In fact, Everton now make it into the opposing sixteen, but the guests are still not granted a shot on goal. Whatever the toffees try, it’s just not meant to be.

39

21:44

With an exceedingly spare expression on his face, Fran Lampard stands in his coaching zone pondering what to do now. How to proceed with this score and the opponent’s efficiency and counterattack strength?

37

21:37

Harry Kane

Tooor for Tottenham Hotspur, 3-0 by Harry Kane

Everton gets caught again. Matt Doherty sends Harry Kane on the journey. The star striker runs towards goal all by himself and doesn’t let this chance pass him by. With his right foot, the Spurs captain heaves the ball flat and untenable into the left corner. The ninth goal of the season marks Kane’s 175th career goal in the Premier League. There are no objections from the VAR side – so no offside.

35

21:36

In the subsequent corner from the right, Harry Kane lurks in the short corner, but fails to extend Son’s cross to a profit.

34

21:35

Such a fast counterattack by the Spurs is now running through Heung-min Son again. In the second attempt, his cross pass reaches Matt Doherty half-right in the box. Near the right corner of the goal area, he pulls off with his right foot and fails at Jordan Pickford.

32

21:34

We’re still waiting for the guests to score. The Toffees don’t play that bad in the beginning, but they seem extremely vulnerable to the opponent’s counterattacks.

30

21:31

Christian Romero

Cristian Romero (Tottenham Hotspur) receives a yellow card

Cristian Romero picked up his eighth yellow card in domestic club competition this season for a foul on Richarlison.

28

21:30

Suddenly, Heung-min Son has a clear path and runs into the penalty area via the half-left. With his right-footed shot, the striker cannot get past Jordan Pickford. Harry Kane offers the left-footed shot opportunity from about 14 yards. The ball bounces just past the goal to the left. So we experience the first two shots on goal within seconds, which remain without countable success.

26

21:28

With Everton lacking any penetrating power, Spurs have things under control quite well without developing any further pull towards the goal

24

21:24

Heung Min Son

Yellow card for Heung-min Son (Tottenham Hotspur)

Heung-min Son is determined to stop Anthony Gordon at the cost of a foul that earns him his first yellow card of the game. This is the South Korean’s second caution in domestic competition this season.

22

21:24

Everton still doesn’t get it played to the end. All the ball possession – of which the Toffees have plenty – proves to be an unprofitable art.

20

21:23

One shot on goal, two goals – that’s efficiency. In the further course of the game, the home side let it go, leaving the ball to the opponent, who can actively try to recover from the shock.

18

21:22

This is Son’s eleventh goal of the season in the Premier League, making the 29-year-old Spurs’ best scorer.

17

21:16

Heung Min Son

Tooor for Tottenham Hotspur, 2-0 through Heung-min Son

Then the time came for the first shot on goal of this encounter – and it hits the mark. Spurs are now attacking on the right. From there, Harry Kane alludes to colleague Dejan Kulusevski. He tips the ball to Heung-min Son, who enjoys a lot of space on the half-right edge of the box. The South Korean’s right-footed shot from a half-right 15 meters isn’t placed that well. Nevertheless, Jordan Pickford is unable to hold the ball.

15

21:14

We haven’t seen a single shot on goal yet and it’s still 1-0 for the hosts. It can be like that sometimes.

14

21:14

Michael Keane

Tooor for Tottenham Hotspur, 1-0 by Michael Keane (own goal)

Rodrigo Bentancur shifts the game to the left wing. There Ben Davies sends colleague Ryan Sessegnon up the pace. He moves towards the baseline, then brings the ball flat and sharp to the middle. Harry Kane rushes up there. Michael Keane wants to clarify and accidentally puts the thing into his own goal.

13

21:13

The game keeps going back and forth. Now Everton shows itself again. But Frank Lampard’s boys can only get as far as the edge of the penalty area. Then it’s over.

11

21:12

Heung-min Son is served by Harry Kane, marching through the center towards the sixteen. The South Korean does not see Ryan Sessegnon moving up and gets stuck on the opponent with his subsequent hook.

9

21:10

Then the hosts get to the penalty area. But somehow there is no way through. Harry Kane works as hard as he can, then gets pushed far out to the left. And shortly thereafter, this attempted attack also petered out completely.

7

21:08

No matter how hard the guests try afterwards, the toffees don’t get past the beginnings either. As a result, we still have to be patient here and continue to wait for goal closures.

5

21:06

For the first time, momentum comes in at the approach. After a header extension from Harry Kane, Dejan Kulusevski doesn’t get any further. The switching situation fizzles out quite quickly.

3

21:04

Everyone involved is cautious. Both teams contribute equally to the game, which is distributed fairly evenly.

1

21:00

So now the ball is rolling. With four degrees it is noticeably cool in London tonight. At least no precipitation is expected. The English turf is in the usual excellent condition.

20:55

Incidentally, the first half of the 11th match day ended goalless. Everton took all the points from their last guest appearance at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in September 2020 (0-1). Spurs’ last home win dates back to the previous season. In July 2020, the Londoners also won 1-0.

20:53

After losing out in the Europa Conference League, failing in the semi-finals of the League Cup and the recent English Cup elimination, Tottenham can fully concentrate on the Premier League. This will also be necessary in order to finally bring consistency to your own performance. The constant ups and downs have been characterized in the recent past by nasty home defeats against Southampton (2:3) and Wolverhampton (0:2). After that, the Spurs won 3-2 at Manchester City, only to go empty-handed again in Burnley (0-1). A 4-0 win at Leeds followed three days later. But the next setback was not long in coming, as it was the 0-1 after extra time at second division Middlesbrough in the FA Cup. Incidentally, the last home win was a month ago in the cup against Brighton (3:1). In the Premier League, for the last home treble we have to go back to Boxing Day when they beat Crystal Palace 3-0. That’s a long time ago.

20:43

Everton have lost two away games since then and have gone ten games without a win in the league while traveling, eight of which have been lost. The only threesome on a foreign pitch came in Brighton at the end of August. Most recently they lost in Southampton (0:2) and at home against Manchester City (0:1). The last win came in mid-February at home against Leeds (3-0). Away from the Premier League, the Toffees reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup last Wednesday with a 2-0 home win over five-tier side Boreham Wood.

20:35

From a tabular perspective, the seventh hosts the seventeenth. There are 20 points between the two teams. In view of Tottenham’s international ambitions, a home win is urgently needed to reduce the current five-point deficit to fifth place. Everton need points just as urgently. The Toffees are only a dot above the line, so they are fighting for relegation. The fans don’t have much hope for the away game in London, because the Liverpool squad is the worst away team in the Premier League. A miserable victory and only six points have so far been secured abroad. Even Frank Lampard was unable to change this weak point after taking office at the end of January.

20:21

Compared to the cup-off last Tuesday in Middlesbrough, almost the entire Spurs starting eleven can prove themselves again. The only exception is Harry Winks, who has to take a seat on the bench and give way to Rodrigo Bentancur. On the visitors’ side, goalkeeper Asmir Begović returns to the back seat after the FA Cup, allowing number 1 Jordan Pickford to go between the posts. Frank Lampard is also replacing Nathan Patterson (not in the squad), Vitaliy Mykolenko, Jarrad Branthwaite, Andros Townsend and Salomón Rondón (all bench), bringing in Mason Holgate, Séamus Coleman, Donny van de Beek, Richarlison and Dominic Calvert- Levin to use.

20:07

Welcome to the Premier League on Monday! The 28th matchday still has exactly one game ready, which we will stage today. At 21:00 CET, Tottenham Hotspur meets Everton FC.
