Live ticker Netherlands – Ecuador (World Cup 2022 in Qatar, Group A)

41

17:42

Enner Valencia takes the ball deep in his own half from a central defender. Up front, the attacker seems a bit bored, because goal finishes are still in short supply in Doha.

38

17:38

The Dutch generally have a lot to talk about these days. Almost every decision made by the referee is loudly commented on by the kickers in the orange jerseys.

36

17:36

Pervis Estupiñán hits a cross on the penalty spot from the left field. Andries Noppert rushes out of his case and catches the leather in front of a lurking opponent.

33

17:33

On the left, Enner Valencia makes a powerful move past Denzel Dumfries and pulls into the middle. Ecuador’s record goalscorer takes a powerful shot from 17 meters and forces Andries Noppert to make a great save.

32

17:32

After more than half an hour, the South Americans are in the game well, so that both teams are at least on an equal footing at the moment. For the Dutch, however, their efficiency in front of the opposing goal clearly speaks for themselves.

31

17:31

Goal scorer Cody Gakpo sensitively hits the first corner of the Dutchman in the center. There he finds only the head of a defender.

29

17:29

Gonzalo Plata puts the corner kick flat on the first post. The Dutch have no problem clearing the weakly kicked ball into touch.

28

17:28

A cross from Ángelo Preciado is blocked by Nathan Aké for the first corner of the encounter.

26

17:26

This time Jurriën Timber is late against Michael Estrada. The young Dutchman has already collected a few fouls today.

24

17:25

Virgil van Dijk shoots at the opponent in his own half and invites Ecuador to counterattack. Enner Valencia looks for a cross from the right, but only finds Jurriën Timber, who clears in front of the striker.

21

17:21

After Enner Valencia lost the ball, Denzel Dumfries initiates a counterattack by the Dutch. Pervis Estupiñán holds him from behind several times. The referee’s whistle remains silent, which causes incomprehension for the fouled Dumfries.

18

17:18

Elftal finds its way back into the game better. Controlled, the Europeans drive the ball forward. There are a lot of gaps in midfield, but the Ecuadorians are compact in front of their own goal with their five-man chain.

15

17:16

On the left, the self-confident Enner Valencia takes on three opponents. Jurriën Timber remains the winner in the end and shields the ball. Andries Noppert kicks off the goal.

14

17:14

Furthermore, there is little to see of the Dutch. Ecuador makes the game to the halfway line. There, the favorites intervene and push the South Americans back.

11.

17:11

Jurriën Timber works on his opponent Enner Valencia from behind in midfield. The referee rightly whistles the over-motivated Dutchman’s action.

9.

17:09

Since the opening goal, Elftal has let their opponents have the ball and waits to see what the South Americans bring to the pitch. The selection from Ecuador has not made it into the last third so far.

6.

17:05

Tooor for Netherlands, 1-0 through Cody Gakpo

The Dutch take the lead with the first chance! After a long ball from Nathan Aké, La Tri can’t clear the ball so Davy Klaassen grabs the ball and leaves it to Cody Gakpo. The Elftal shooting star measures from 17 meters and nails the play equipment from a central position into the upper left corner. Hernán Galíndez can only look after the ball.

4.

17:04

Ángelo Preciado goes down on the right. The South American appears to have picked up an injury early in the game and is being treated. After a short break, the full-back is back and can probably continue playing.

2.

17:02

As expected, Oranje starts with a secure and dominant ball. In the first few seconds, the Dutch let the ball run a lot. In the end, a misunderstanding between Jurriën Timber and Virgil van Dijk caused the ball to be lost for the first time.

1.

17:00

Let’s go in Doha! Referee Mustapha Ghorbal from Algeria starts the game.

4:50 p.m

With regard to the FIFA world rankings, the Europeans are going into the game as favorites. The Netherlands is currently in eighth place there. Ecuador, on the other hand, only managed 44th place. La Tri’s greatest success at a World Cup so far was reaching the round of 16 in Germany in 2006. There, the South Americans narrowly failed 1-0 to England. The Elftal, on the other hand, recorded three runners-up World Cups (1974, 1978 and 2010) as their greatest success so far at a World Cup finals.

16:39

Elftal last lost their second group game at a World Cup in 1994. There the Dutch lost 1-0 in the USA to their neighbors Belgium. Since then, Oranje has not lost a point on the second day of the group stage. Louis van Gaal’s team wants to build on this impressive statistic today.

16:28

The two nations meet today for the first time ever in a competitive game. Friendlies were held between the countries in both 2006 and 2014. In 2006, the Europeans won the duel 1-0 with a goal from Dirk Kuyt. Eight years later, the teams drew 1-1 in Amsterdam. Jefferson Montero put the South Americans ahead before Elftal legend Robin van Persie equalized.

16:22

A look at the staff: Compared to the first group game, Bonds coach Louis van Gaal makes three changes. Timber will start for De Ligt on defense, Koopmeiners for Berghuis in midfield and Klaassen for Janssen in attack. However, Klaassen is more likely to take on the role in attacking midfield. In return, Gakpo will probably attack alongside Bergwijn. La Tri coach Alfaro Gustavo Julio has a much more defensive stance today than in the opening game. Only central defender Porozo stands in for striker Ibarra in the starting eleven today. This personnel change points to a five-man chain for the South Americans.

16:18

The selection from Ecuador was also able to win the opening game with 2:0. In the opening match against hosts Qatar at the Al Bayt Stadium, a brace from Ecuador’s record goalscorer Enner Valencia cleared things up after just over half an hour and was ultimately responsible for the historically first opening defeat by a World Cup host. After beating a surprisingly weak Qatar, La Tri face their first real test of the tournament today. A point win against the favored Dutch would already be considered a success for the South Americans. Regardless of today’s result on the last day of the group stage against Sénégal, the squad from Ecuador has a possible place in the round of 16 in their own hands.

16:08

Coached by ex-Bayern coach Louis van Gaal, Elftal got off to a good if lackluster start to the tournament on Monday. The Dutch managed a 2-0 win against what is probably their strongest competitor for group victory, Sénégal. In an uneventful and balanced game, shooting star Cody Gakpo gave his team a late 1-0 lead after De Jong’s preparatory work. Shortly before the final whistle of the game, substitute ex-Werder midfielder Davy Klaassen made it 2-0.

15:59

Welcome to the second match day of the 2022 World Cup! At 5 p.m., the Netherlands and Ecuador will duel in Group A.
