Espargaro celebrates the first victory!

Aleix Espargaro is through and ensures that Aprilla can continue to celebrate. Although the poleman lost his lead at the start, he stayed on and struck a few laps before the end and regained the lead. In the 200th race there is Espargaro’s first victory in MotoGP and the first for Aprilla. What a story! Second is Jorge Martin ahead of Alex Rins.

Shortly before the finish there is another fall in the field. Di Giannantonio slides off the track. The driver quickly gives the all-clear. There are now yellow flags in the third sector.

23

20:37

Three more rounds

There are still three laps to go and they will be tough! The gaps at the front are small and the podium places have not yet been awarded.

22

Martin puts on the pressure

Jorge Martin stays close and with four laps left he is still close. Just under a second behind, Alex Rins holds third place. He has a lead of 1.4 seconds over teammate Joan Mir.

Aleix Espargaro succeeds on the third try! He Aprilla driver takes the lead. But can he leave now?

20

20:32

The second attack doesn’t sit either

And Aleix Espargaro’s second attack doesn’t sit well either. Again he takes too much speed in Turn 5 and has to pull back. Martin stays in front.

19

20:30

How far away is Rins?

Martin and Espargaro can still calmly fight their duel at the top, because the gap to third place is big enough. Rins is 1.3 seconds behind the two drivers.

18

20:27

duel for victory

Aleix Espargaro sets the attack against the leader. But then he is too late on the brakes, has to drive the wide line and so Martin slips past again.

16

20:26

Bastianini far out

This is certainly not how Bastianini imagined it. After a mistake he goes wide and has to find his way back to 13th place.

16

20:25

Aleix Espargaro is working his way up

Aleix Espargaro has meanwhile worked his way back up to the leader. But can he find a way past Martin? Ten rounds remain.

12

20:19

Martin can pull away easily

Jorge Martin is able to pull away slightly at the front and has extended his lead over Espargaro to 0.6 seconds. Behind them, Rins slowly approaches. He is still 1.5 seconds short of second place.

11

20:17

Viñales also passes

Viñales also doesn’t give Marini a chance and with his Aprilla he overtakes the Italian from the Mooney VR46 Racing Team. The next competitor, Bagnaia, is already lurking behind him.

10

20:16

Marini is handed back

Luca Marini started in a strong third place, but in the race he is currently being passed back again and again. In the meantime, he only has eighth place left.

Stefan Bradl came in 21st due to the defects of two competitors and Zarco’s fall. The German drives just behind Fabio Di Giannantonio.

9

20:13

The top 2 escapes

Jorge Martin and Aleix Espargaro have already gained a lead of over two seconds at the front. Alex Rins is also fast after overtaking Pol Espargaro. Maybe he can do it again.

8th

20:12

Morbidelli stops

Morbidelli steers his bike into the pits and it’s time for him to park. The race is over. Dovizioso is driving again, but is a few laps behind.

7

20:10

Rins passes

Of course, Alex Rins doesn’t let this chance pass him by. Pol Espargaro left the door wide open and the competitor quickly slipped past on his Suzuki.

Fabio Quartararo has experienced three mixed rounds so far. The Frenchman is currently only in 13th place and has so far lost out in the duels.

2

20:02

Difficulties with Dovizioso

Dovizioso seems to be in trouble. He turns into the pits with his Yamaha. In the meantime, the top 2 can easily pull away at the front.

2

20:02

Bradl makes up a position

Stefan Bradl moved up one position in the first few kilometers of this race. He is now 23.

1

20:01

Aleix Espargaro can at least regain second place in a duel with Marini. At the front, however, Martin has already gained a minimal lead. It is now necessary to drive it.

1

20:00

The race has started!

The race has started! Aleix Espargaro doesn’t get off well and immediately there is a change at the top. Jorge Martin and Luca Marini slide past.

19:59

It’s about to start

The drivers return to the starting grid. Now it won’t be long until the start!

19:58

Warm-up lap in progress

The machines start moving and Aleix Espargaro leads the field one last time before the start. The choice of tires is the same for all pilots: they start the race with hard front tires and soft rear tires.

19:54

The distance

MotoGP is a guest on the third weekend of the season at the Autodromo Termas de Rio Hondo. The 4.8-kilometre circuit made its debut on the MotoGP calendar in 2014, but has not been raced here for the past two years due to the coronavirus pandemic. The track has 14 corners, five to the left and nine to the right. There are a total of 25 rounds today.

19:47

Look at the World Cup

After the first two races, Enea Bastianini leads the rankings in the Drivers’ Championship by a narrow margin with 30 points. Brad Binder follows two points behind him in front of Fabio Quartararo, who is three points short of the championship lead. The top nine is currently only ten points apart.

19:41

Stefan Bradl replaces Marc Marquez

Marc Márquez is one of the most successful drivers in Argentina with three victories, but this weekend the Spaniard is missing after his highside in the warm-up for the Indonesian Grand Prix. The Repsol Honda star suffers from diplopia again. He will be replaced by Stefan Bradl. Unsurprisingly, he wasn’t able to do much in qualifying and is now in last starting position.

19:36

Bagnaia in midfield

Things were not going well for Francesco Bagnaia, who started the season with high expectations. The runner-up world champion clearly struggled with the machine in his Q1 runs and is only 13th on the grid today. Team-mate Jack Miller didn’t fare much better either. Although he was present in Q2, he was subsequently penalized by race control for obstructing Quartararo on the flying lap. This dropped three places on the grid, putting him behind Bagnaia.

19:32

Espargaro from the pole

There were two celebrations on yesterday’s qualifying day. Aleix Espargaro confirmed his strong performance in practice and took pole for today’s race with a 1:37.688. For the Spaniard it was the third pole of his career after a long dry spell of over six years. For Aprilia it was even the first pole in MotoGP. Next to him are Jorge Martin and Luca Marini.

Welcome!

After a two-year Corona break, MotoGP is back in Argentina this year. At 8:00 p.m. the points will be awarded in the third WRC round of the season.
