Live ticker Manchester City – Nottingham Forest (Premier League 2023/2024, 6th matchday)

26.

16:27

Next finish from Manchester, this time Álvarez tries it! He stabs a pass from Rodri and goes centrally towards the penalty area. Due to the lack of opponents and passing stations, the Argentine tries it himself from a good 20 meters, but aims too centrally. Turner has the ball safely in the follow-up.

23.

4:25 p.m

After the guests’ first offensive sign of life, City is back in control of the game. They let the ball run safely and Nottingham hardly has a chance to win the ball.

20.

16:22

Four men are ready to take the free kick, and in the end Gibbs-White takes it. His attempt is deflected off the wall and goes past to the right. It’s a corner for Nottingham, who kicks Gibbs-White again. Ederson is there with a fist and clears it.

19.

4:20 p.m

Yellow card for Pep Guardiola (Manchester City)

Pep Guardiola is also warned because he apparently complained too vehemently.

18.

16:19

Manuel Akanji

Yellow card for Manuel Akanji (Manchester City)

Awoniyi tries it alone! He wins the ball on the halfway line and pulls away before Akanji can only stop him with a foul just before the penalty area. Rúben Dias is still there, so this is not an emergency brake. Referee Anthony Taylor shows him a yellow card. Are the guests now coming to their first graduation?

16.

16:17

The guests are unable to stay in possession of the ball any longer. Once they have won the ball, they are usually followed by hasty long balls, but they still lack a lot of precision and are gone too quickly.

14.

4:15 p.m

Erling Haaland

Tooor for Manchester City, 2-0 by Erling Haaland

Haaland increases to 2-0 after less than 15 minutes! This was preceded by another great passing game from the hosts with a fine one-two from Foden and Matheus Nunes on the right in the penalty area. The Brazilian’s cross then finds Haaland centrally in the five-meter area, who nods safely against Turner’s direction.

12.

16:13

The Citizens come back on the right side. Foden passes from the right into the middle to Rodri, who then wants to send the starting documentary in a chip to the left. But Boly is attentive and just manages to clear the ball with his head.

10.

16:12

Nottingham will now have to loosen up their defensive style a bit after conceding this early goal. Not much has happened yet, but the guests should set some offensive accents in a timely manner.

7.

16:08

Phil Foden

Great for Manchester City, 1-0 by Phil Foden

Foden puts City in the lead after a remarkable attack! Before that, Walker starts on the right side with a great run into the box and is found with a through ball. The right-back doesn’t take the shot himself, but instead deliberately places it back to the right edge of the penalty area, where Foden runs in and shoots directly with his left. The ball lands in the near corner, Turner is powerless.

6.

16:07

City unsurprisingly had a lot of possession in the opening minutes. Nottingham initially shifts to counter-attacking, which Awoniyi initially succeeds in when he pokes the ball away from Rodri. But then the striker misses the passing stations and the ball is immediately back to the hosts after Gvardiol intervenes.

3.

4:05 p.m

Álvarez takes over and pulls the ball sharply past the wall with his right onto the right corner of the goal. However, Turner expected this and he safely punched the ball to the side. That was a good save from the goalkeeper.

2.

16:03

Haaland goes down in the middle of the visitors’ box! Niakhaté holds him as the Norwegian tries to run into a through ball from Álvarez. This is a dangerous position…

1.

16:01

It starts in Manchester. The game has begun with England coach Gareth Southgate in the stands!

15:52

Nobody at Nottingham will want to think back fondly to the first leg of the previous season. Forrest went down 6-0 at the Etihad Stadium. In the second leg, Nottingham defied Guardiola’s team to draw 1-1. Overall, City won 41 of the 101 duels between the teams, while Nottingham won 32 games. 28 games ended in a draw.

3:44 p.m

Nottingham Forrest is still looking for the rhythm, the start of the season was like a roller coaster ride. After the opening defeat at runner-up Arsenal (1:2), a 2:1 win against Sheffield United and a 2:3 defeat at Manchester United followed. The next three-pointer was at Chelsea (1-0), before they drew 1-1 at home with Burnley. Coach Steve Cooper’s team can definitely do well away from home.

3:35 p.m

In addition to the successes in the league, Pep Guardiola’s team also made their start in the Champions League. However, the 3-1 win against Red Star Belgrade was more difficult than the result suggests. At half time the favorite was in the lead thanks to a goal from Osman Bukari (45th + 2). But then Julian Álvarez turned the game in Manchester’s favor with a brace (47th & 60th) and Rodri (73rd).

15:28

Manchester City got off to the perfect start to the season. Five games, five wins, that’s the record in the Premier League at the start of the season. The Citizens were particularly accurate in the 5-1 win against Fulham. Erling Haaland scored three times. New signing Jérémy Doku was allowed to start alongside the Norwegian at West Ham last week and scored his debut goal for City. The Belgian with Ghanaian roots came from Rennes in August.

15:21

Steve Cooper is turning his team inside out in several positions. Willy Boly and Moussa Niakhaté are new to the defense in the 4-3-3 system. Nuno Tavares and captain Sèrge Aurier move into midfield and in the three-man attack, ex-Union player Taiwo Awoniyi has new strike partners on the wings in Morgan Gibbs-White and Nicolás Domínguez. Former Leverkusen player Callum Hudson-Odoi and Swede Anthony Elanga are among the players who will be rotated onto the bench.

15:18

The lineups are ready outside. Pep Guardiola has to accept another injury absence after three key players, Kevin De Bruyne, Mateo Kovačić and John Stones, had to miss the game against Belgrade. Bernardo Silva also got hit there, who is now being replaced by Matheus Nunes.
