It takes some more time
The Arantxa Sanchez Stadium is not free yet. The game between Taylor Fritz and Zhang Zhizhen really picked up speed again in the second set after Fritz was already in front of the set and break. But the Chinese fought back and at least booked the tie-break in the second set.

Light favourite
Today’s clash is a first for both players as they have never played each other before. In addition, both are close together in the world rankings, so that no favorite can be identified. Nevertheless, based on his experience alone, the German should have a slight advantage. But he shouldn’t underestimate his opponent, because Cachin has been in a real frenzy so far and has been on the pitch less than Struff.

Cachin mutates into a fright of favourites
Pedro Cachin didn’t have to play through the qualification, but reaching the round of 16 is certainly a small surprise. The Argentine is currently switching back and forth between the ATP Tour and the Challenger Tour and is trying to fight his way into the top 50. He is currently in 67th place, two places behind today’s opponent Jan-Lennard Struff. Similar to Struff, the 28-year-old prevailed against well-known opponents. Round one got off to an unspectacular start against qualifier Shelbayh before he eliminated two seeded players, Francisco Cerundolo and Frances Tiafoe. Cachin has yet to drop a set during the tournament.

Struff rounds off German day
With three German players in the round of 16, the day was promising from a German perspective. Daniel Altmaier impressively defeated Jaume Munar 6:3 and 6:0. Alexander Zverev, on the other hand, experienced a similar clear result, but against himself. Carlos Alcaraz didn’t give him a chance and showed the current German number one the limits. 6: 1 and 6: 2 was the devastating result for Zverev. As the third and last German, Jan-Lennard Struff is now on the pitch. Once again, the Warsteiner fought his way through the qualification into the main field and was in top form. He made it to the round of 16 with victories over Lorenzo Sonego, Ben Shelton and Dusan Lajovic. Against today’s opponent Pedro Cachin, there are certainly opportunities for Struff to go one round further.
