Head 2 Head
For the sixth time, these two professionals face each other on the tennis court during an official match. All previous games went to Djokovic. It all started in Roland Garros in 2019. In the same year at Wimbledon, the Pole won at least one set – as he did in 2021 in the semifinals of the Paris-Bercy Masters. At the 1,000 in Madrid in 2022 and during the current season in Dubai, the Serb did it in two sets.

Djokovic at Wimbledon
But another record beckons, because Djokovic already has seven Wimbledon triumphs under his belt and could catch up with leader Roger Federer (eight) this year. Nole has competed at Church Road for the 18th time since 2005 and is 2nd seed as the defending champion. The Serb hasn’t shown any weaknesses in the past few days either, eliminating Pedro Cachín, Jordan Thompson and Stan Wawrinka without losing a set.

Records upon records
What is there to say about Djoker? The Serb, spoiled by success, is becoming more and more the record man of the scene. The most important records are now also solely in his possession. The 23 Grand Slam titles should be mentioned in particular. But the 36-year-old also holds the Masters record with 38 wins. The Golden Masters, i.e. the triumph in all current 1,000s, was only achieved by him. His 389 weeks at the top of the world rankings are also unmatched. Djokovic is also a six-time ATP champion. Records over records! Only with his 94 tournament victories is the right-hander not the measure of all things.

Hurkacz at Wimbledon
Hurkacz is currently ranked 18th in the world and 17th at Wimbledon. The right-hander is making his fifth appearance on the holy turf since his debut in 2018. Two years ago he reached the semi-finals and thus his best major result to date. This week, the Pole roared through the tournament without losing a set, at most it took a little more than two hours. He knocked out Albert Ramos Viñolas, Jan Choinski and Lorenzo Musetti, who was 14th.

Hurkacz 2023
In this round of 16, Djokovic will face Hurkacz. The Pole was a top 10 player two years ago (9th), and has won six of his seven finals on the ATP tour. Among them was the Masters of Miami 2021 and with Halle 2022 also a lawn tournament. The 26-year-old feels quite comfortable on this surface and was able to prove it recently as a semi-finalist in the 250 in Stuttgart. Things went even better in February at the indoor tournament in Marseille. Hurkacz celebrated his only tournament victory this season on hard court.
17:30
delay
However, we will still need a little patience. Andrey Rublev and Alexander Bublik are currently enjoying their time on Center Court and have just entered the fifth set. And since there’s still a women’s game to follow, it’s probably not our turn before 7:30 p.m.
