15:13

Head 2 Head

For the second time Rune and Cerúndolo face each other on the tennis court during an official match. The two contested the first comparison in August 2019 at a Challenger in Manerbio, northern Italy. At that time, the Argentinian won 7: 6 and 6: 0 on clay.

15:03

Shortly

Beatriz Haddad Maia has just converted her fourth match point in an almost memorable match after almost four hours of play, beating Sara Sorribes Tormo 6:7, 6:3 and 7:5. This means that the Suzanne-Lenglen court is now free for our men’s match.

14:26

Still no end

It’s unbelievable how long two women can spend together on the tennis court. Sara Sorribes Tormo and Beatriz Haddad Maia really take it to the extreme today, aiming for three and a half hours of play. At some point, however, things have to come to an end – even if it might not be our turn until around 3:00 p.m.

1:35 p.m

Probably only 2:30 p.m

For now, the wait has no end. Sara Sorribes Tormo and Beatriz Haddad Maia have been on the pitch for two and a half hours and have now decided to play a third set. So this will take a while. We will probably not be there until around 2:30 p.m. and will get back to you in good time. See you later!

Cerundolo 2023

In this tennis year, the quarter-finals seemed to be the highest of emotions for Cerúndolo for a long time. Almost in series it was the end of the line for him – in an impressive five cases. After all, the Masters from Miami and Rome were there. Most recently, however, the Argentinian stormed into the final of the 250 in Lyon and surprisingly lost there in two sets to the unseeded Frenchman Arthur Fils.

13:02

patience

The ladies already mentioned on the Suzanne-Lenglen court are still unable to reach an agreement. The second set is characterized by extremely long service games. This postpones the rest of the program – at least until 1:45 p.m.

12:49 p.m

Three finals, one title – all on clay

Like Rune, Cerúndolo currently has his highest position in the world rankings, with him it is position 23. For the right-hander there are three finals on the ATP tour – all at 250 s on sand. The Argentinian won the Båstad in Sweden almost a year ago. In addition, he already knew how to please at Masters level, reaching the semifinals in Miami 2022.

12:39 p.m

Cerundolo at the French Open

Cerúndolo is at the Grand Slam tournament in the French capital for the third time since 2021. So far, however, the Argentine had always been eliminated in the first round. The 24-year-old is currently achieving unexpected heights and is the first round of 16 in a major. His best result so far comes from the Australian Open 2023, when it was the third round. On his way so far, the 23rd seeded South American eliminated the Spaniard Jaume Munar in four sets from Paris, the German Yannick Hanfmann in three and the 9th seeded American Taylor Fritz in four sets.

12:29

delay

Two women are still at work on the Suzanne-Lenglen court. Sara Sorribes Tormo and Beatriz Haddad Maia played a tiebreaker and are currently in the second set. So the matter will drag on for a while. For our men’s match, this means an orientation in the direction of 1:15 p.m.

12:18

Rune in Roland Garros

On the red sand of Roland Garros, Rune once triumphed in the juniors and was crowned French Open winner in 2019. The Dane was there for the first time twelve months ago and already reached the quarterfinals, which he is still aiming for today. He only had to play two games last week, giving up a set against Christopher Eubanks and then not having to play against the injured Gaël Monfils. After that, Rune, who was seeded at number 6, had no trouble against Argentinian Genaro Alberto Olivieri.

12:08 p.m

Rune 2023

In the current season, Rune shone as a tournament winner at the 250cc in Munich (sand). The right-hander had previously played the semi-finals in Montpellier (250s) and Acapulco (500s). The Dane also played in two Masters finals, losing out on clay to Russia’s Andrey Rublev and Daniil Medvedev in Monte Carlo and most recently in Rome.

11:58

Already top 10

Rune belongs to the new generation of young, aspiring players that also includes Carlos Alcaraz and Lorenzo Musetti. Like the pioneer and world number one from Spain, the Dane has already made it into the top 10 and is currently sixth, his highest position so far. The 20-year-old has played eight finals on the ATP tour and won four of them. The greatest success was the triumph at the Masters in Paris-Bercy 2022.
