With a win, the Hanseatic League would move past Düsseldorf, who are tied on points. During the week, Hamburg managed to reach the round of 16 of the DFB Cup. In the penalty shootout, head coach Tim Walter’s team won 4-3 against third division team Arminia Bielefeld. Walter has to do without Schonlau (calf), Van der Brempt (torn muscle fiber), Reis (shoulder surgery) and Suhonen (fractured fibula).
