Live Ticker Germany – Spain (Friendship Women 2022, February)

Mid-term conclusion:
At half-time, Germany and Spain are goalless at 0-0. Spain had field advantages from the start of the game, while Germany tended to rely on counterattacks and long balls behind the opposing defence. The German team had a promising chance to score through Bühl in the 15th minute – the offensive player shot wide of the goal on the left. On the other side, the Spaniards’ ball possession game repeatedly resulted in shots, which, however, were usually not really dangerous. There were complaints from the Spanish side after Oberdorf caught the ball on his own edge of the penalty area. The referee allowed play to continue. The Iberians were close to opening the scoring in the 34th minute when a flick from substitute Lucía García went just wide of the target. Shortly thereafter, Schüller fired a shot over the goal from 16 meters (35′). It went into the half-time break without a goal.

The stoppage time of the first half is already running, it will probably be goalless at the break.

Official injury time (minutes): 2

43

16:15

Lucía García rushes Maximiliane Rall on the left in the penalty area, but Merle Frohms comes out of her goal in time and is able to grab the ball after the Spaniard has advanced it a little too far.

39

16:11

Overall, however, Spain continues to be the team that has clear field advantages and is mainly in the forward gear.

16:06

Yellow card for Patri (Spain)

Patri keeps his foot on it near the center line and sees the first yellow card of the game.

16:06

On the other side, Germany also has a good chance! The team coached by Voss-Tecklenburg played quickly forward again, Schüller came free after a through pass from 16 meters from half left and put the ball over the goal with a lob.

34

16:06

Spain is just a hair in the lead! Substitute Lucía García receives the ball from the left half and tries a flick on the long right corner of the goal from 15 meters. The ball just misses the case!

30

16:02

After a cross pass from the left, Jenni Hermoso appeared half-left in the penalty area nine meters in front of the German goal and unchallenged put the ball past the box on the left. A possible hit would probably have been denied due to an offside position.

27

16:00

Lena Oberdorf flies the ball to her arm from a short distance on her own edge of the penalty area. There is a complaint from the Spanish side, but the referee sees no criminal handball here and lets play continue.

23

15:57

There is an early change for the Spaniards due to injury: Mariona has to leave the field and Lucía García replaces her.

15:55

After a misplay by the Germans in the build-up, Spain quickly played centrally in front of the penalty area. Alexia’s finish then misses the goal a bit.

19

15:52

Frohms is on the post with an unplaced shot from the left in the penalty area.

19

3:50 p.m

The Spaniards defended well and successfully played offside again in this scene. Lea Schüller was in the forbidden zone during the pass.

17

15:48

Germany combine purposefully up the right touchline, Brand’s cross is then intercepted at the first post.

15

15:47

There was more in it! Brand serves Bühl on the half-left with a great vertical pass. The offensive player comes unchallenged from 14 meters to the end, which she warps with the left and misses the goal a good deal.

13

15:44

Germany cannot pose a major threat from a corner kick from the right.

10

15:43

Brand is staged on the right with a through ball behind the Spanish defense – it’s ruled offside.

8th

15:41

Now the Iberians are setting the tone again. Germany are well organized in and around their own penalty area in the early stages.

4

15:37

After the Spaniards launched the first attacks, the German team is now on the offensive for the first time. Sandra Paños is able to fend off a shot from a somewhat acute angle from twelve meters, Bühl is not there quickly enough for the possible dust collector.

15:31

Here we go, the ball rolls in Middlesbrough.

15:19

There is only one change in the starting line-up of the Spaniards compared to the 8-0 win over Scotland around two and a half months ago: María León replaces Irene.

15:16

Also due to corona-related absences, the starting eleven of the German team has changed in four positions compared to the 3-1 victory in Portugal at the end of November: Rall, Brand, Feldkamp and Dallmann start instead of Hendrich, Hegering, Leupolz and Huth.

15:05

Germany and Spain last faced each other in the group stage at the 2019 World Cup in France. There, the German team won 1-0. The two nations will also meet at the upcoming European Championships in July – both have been drawn into preliminary round group B.

14:46

The Spaniards are also well on the way to qualifying directly for the World Cup. Coach Jorge Vilda’s team has won each of their five games so far in qualifying group B and currently has a goal difference of 43:0. In November, the Iberians defeated the Faroe Islands 12-0 at home and Scotland 8-0 at home.

14:43

Coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg’s team played their last two games in November. Germany won 8-0 at home against Turkey in the World Cup qualifiers and four days later 3-1 in Portugal. The German team is clearly leading the World Cup qualifying group H after six games with the maximum possible result of 18 points.

14:42
