Before the last quarter, Germany leads 61:46 against Slovenia. Could Germany break away decisively through the third quarter? Again and again, the DBB selection used Slovenia’s mistakes for quick points in the fast break. Slovenia doesn’t seem to be able to keep up with Germany today, especially in terms of deployment.

Mid-term conclusion:
With a narrow 33:31 lead for Germany, the game against Slovenia goes into halftime. Not everything works in the DBB selection, but you took the lead in Munich through a strong second quarter. Schröder went without a hit in seven shots in the first half, but the total of 14 offensive rebounds helped the German team find their way into the game. Slovenia got off to a better start with 11 points from Dončić, who then cooled down significantly.

Slovenia is back so quickly! Centrally, they use Dončić’s pick and roll to get the DBB defense moving. The ball runs well in the left corner to Čančar, who sinks for three.

A short run by Slovenia and Gordon Herbert reacted immediately with a time-out. Nick Weiler-Babb’s three-point attempt completely misses the ring and in return Luka Dončić sets the pace straight away. A long pass finds the lead Klemen Prepelič, who can easily finish in the fastbreak.

The lead for the DBB selection is becoming clearer! Sengfelder and Thiemann work well on the offensive board. Thiemann then finds the cutting Wagner in the zone, who puts the ball through the ring without a board. In Slovenia, on the other hand, there is currently nothing going on offensively.

It is important for Germany that the threesome is currently falling. Again Slovenia is a bit too aggressive on the ball and releases Sengfelder in the right corner. Schröder sees this directly and finds Sengfelder for three points.

After the first quarter, Germany is just 17:20 against Slovenia. The DBB selection needed something to get into the game. However, a few hit threes brought Gordon Herbert’s team back on track.

Lô is now taking over the structure for Schröder and is directly successful. His ALBA team-mate Thiemann blocks him and Lô manages to get into the zone. There he finishes with a not very easy floater, but the attempt works.

But Germany is slowly working its way back up. At the back, Johannes Voigtmann clears Goran Dragić, who is pulling to the basket, and in return, Dennis Schröder sets the pace straight away. The DBB team already played a World Cup qualifier against Sweden on Thursday and won 67:50 in Stockholm. After his ankle injury in the Supercup, point guard Dennis Schröder was back. The man from Braunschweig lacked a strong start, especially at the beginning, but in the end he was able to contribute 12 points. On the other hand, NBA wing Franz Wagner was able to convince again, building on his strong performances in the Supercup with 16 points.

For both teams, today’s game is not only an important step towards qualifying for the World Cup, but also a last test before the start of the EuroBasket in four days. There, on September 6th, Germany meets the Slovenian selection again in the group phase and fights for a place in the quarter-finals.
