The Chinese are only 32nd in the world rankings and only play in the fourth-rate 2nd Division at the Ice Hockey World Championships. So that the host doesn’t go under completely in their own tournament, 16 players from ice hockey nations were naturalized without further ado. There are 13 Canadians, two Americans and one Russian. But the naturalization measure hasn’t helped China yet: In the first game, the hosts suffered an 8-0 defeat against the USA.
