Vettel beyond the top ten
Sebastian Vettel found himself outside the top ten in his first practice session. After riding the soft at the start of practice, he later switched to the medium and didn’t make a big leap with it. More than 14th place was not possible for him. Alfa Romeo also fell short of expectations. Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou each finished outside the top ten in their first practice session.

Schumacher had to park
Mick Schumacher started the new weekend with a setback. The Haas pilot had only driven a few minutes before he was slowed down due to an enormous loss of water pressure. The water flowed in streams from the German’s car and he had no choice but to turn it off. Nicholas Latifi’s session also ended early after a defect.

Lots of bouncing
It was noticeable that in the first practice session, most of the teams had to struggle with a lot of hopping of the cars on the long straight. This problem was again very pronounced at Mercedes in particular. In addition, almost traditionally for Baku, there were a few trips to the emergency exits of the track. There were no impacts, apart from Lance Stroll touching a small wall.

Sergio Pérez with best time
After his victory in Monaco, Sergio Pérez has also been doing well on the street circuit in Baku so far. The Mexican, who has just renewed his contract with Red Bull, set the best time in practice one with a time of 1:45.476 minutes. Charles Leclerc was behind him in the first Ferrari. Max Verstappen was third ahead of Carlos Sainz.
