While Hülkenberg is still in a good fifth place, Kevin Magnussen wasn’t able to strike on his fast lap. He can be found in the 16th position. Mercedes should have hoped for more. Hamilton is only eighth, Russell is 13th.

Even Max Verstappen cannot endanger Fernando Alonso at the top. With a 1:31.076 he remains 0.169 seconds behind the current record. Hulkenberg has already turned back into the garage. Says that there wasn’t a lot of fuel in the tank.

The best times tumble and now it is Fernando Alonso who holds the top spot in the result list. He needed 1:30.907 minutes for his lap. Sergio Pérez was two tenths slower in the Red Bull. Verstappen is currently on his outlap.

Start 2nd training
The traffic lights are green, the start of the 2nd training session in Manama has taken place. The first cars are already on the track, including Lance Stroll, who lost driving time after a technical defect in the first practice session.

The sun has now set over the Bahrain International Circuit and the floodlights are coming on towards Practice 2. The second session will be the one that should give the teams and drivers more insight going into qualifying and the race.

Nico Hülkenberg was the only remaining German driver to take 14th position in the Haas this afternoon. Teammate Kevin Magnussen, on the other hand, made it into the top ten on the soft. Both rely solely on the softest compound. Alpine and Williams did not drive the soft compound yet.

Ferrari and Mercedes without soft
The comparison between Red Bull and Ferrari and Mercedes was not really given in the first practice session. While Red Bull drove the softest compound, Ferrari and Mercedes only used the medium tire for the first 60 minutes on Friday. Charles Leclerc achieved a very good result with fifth place.

Sergio Pérez leads 1st practice session
Formula 1 is picking up speed again and the first practice session of the new season took place this afternoon. Sergio Pérez had the best time in it. With a time of 1:32.758, the Mexican was able to place himself well ahead of Fernando Alonso, who confirmed his good performance from the test days. Max Verstappen finished third after not being entirely happy with his car’s set-up. Lando Norris took fourth place from McLaren.
