Sinner without losing a sentence
South Tyrolean Jannik Sinner is celebrating something like half a home game in Vienna. In any case, he has the fans’ favor on his side. The 22-year-old survived close matches, but has not lost a set in the tournament so far. First he prevailed against Ben Shelton, which was an even more difficult first draw than with Medvedev. This was followed by two confident victories against compatriot Lorenzo Sonego and Frances Tiafoe. Andrey Rublev was waiting in the semifinals. Here Sinner fought back impressively after being 2:5 behind in the first set. After a 7:5 in the first set, a tiebreak followed to win. This game couldn’t have been much closer.

The path of Medvedev
The draw wasn’t particularly good with Daniil Medvedev this week. In the first round he faced Arthur Fils, who had previously been in the final in Antwerp. Medvedev mastered this difficult opening hurdle with flying colors. With a 6:4 and 6:2 victory he clearly ended the Frenchman’s run. Grigor Dimitrov was waiting in round two. Both exchanged blows at the highest level. In the quarterfinals he went the full distance against his compatriot Karen Khachanov before the 27-year-old ended Stefanos Tsitsipas’ final dreams.

Favorites prevail
The final couldn’t be more high-class. Daniil Medvedev, number one, meets Jannik Sinner, number two on the seeding list. In addition, both had already qualified for the ATP Finals in Turin before the tournament and can therefore look back on an excellent year of tennis. For these reasons, the finale is awaited with great excitement.
