Will Zverev’s second victory at this year’s ATP Finals follow?
Alexander Zverev also won his opening match in Turin in Group B against Carlos Alcaraz 6:7, 6:3 and 6:4. The Hamburg native even twisted his ankle at the beginning of the third set, but fortunately the 26-year-old was not seriously injured and was able to continue playing and win the match. This puts the German in second place in the Red Group with one point. The 2021 Olympic champion has had tough weeks. The German number one had to worry about taking part in the ATP finals for a long time, but then qualified for Turin as number seven in the world. He most recently lost at the Masters tournament in Paris in the round of 16 against the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas 6:7 and 4:6. It wasn’t until the next day that the 27-year-old was able to qualify for the ATP finals with the help of other tennis players. Zverev last took part in the ATP Finals in 2021 and won the title for the second time in his career. In 2021 he beat Medvedev 6:3, 6:7 and 7:6 in the final.
