9:23 p.m
Anderson forces decider in set three
Both scores are level until Anderson throws a 140, which Dolan counters with a 140. The Flying Scotsman narrowly misses the 101 finish after triple 20 and single 1 on tops. Dolan also misses a dart for the high finish and, after single 20 and triple 18, fails to hit double 16. Anderson is there and checks double 10 with the second dart.
9:21 p.m
Re-break for Anderson
The History Maker doesn’t score well at all in his throwing leg and with a 138 Anderson gets 68 points deep into the finish area. Dolan stays at 88 points and this time Anderson hits the double: he checks 68 points via single 20, single 8 and tops.
9:18 p.m
Anderson continues with Double Trouble
At first Dolan scores better, but then Anderson comes back into the leg with 134 and 139. Dolan can’t take out 164 and the Flying Scotsman misses darts on doubles again. He hits T14 to finish with 74, but fails to hit double 16 twice. The History Maker almost punishes this, but misses the double 16 after triple 18, single 18 for the 104 finish. Anderson again puts three fresh darts past double 16, so that Dolan can go again and check 32 with the second dart over double 8. The Flying Scotman only hit doubles one out of 13 darts.
9:12 p.m
Dolan continues with 14-darters
Anderson remains six darts without a triple, while Dolan has 32 points remaining after twelve darts and safely checks this with the second dart on double 16. The Flying Scotsman is still not in the finishing area and has to come up with something quickly.
9:10 p.m
Dolan on the way to the next surprise
Anderson can win his first leg, but is ultimately clearly defeated in the second set. This is mainly due to his continued weak scoring (84.52 average) and hair-raising errors in the checkouts. Dolan plays a solid game, averaging 93.72 points and takes full advantage of Anderson’s mistakes. So he quickly leads 2-0 in sets and the next surprise at this World Cup is on the horizon.
9:08 p.m
Dolan for a 2-0 set lead
Dolan doesn’t score well on his throw leg and Anderson finds a few more triples. With 121 remaining, Anderson only scores 5 (!) points and remains at 116. Dolan faces 100 points remaining and Anderson misses the 116 finish after single 19, triple 19 on tops. Dolan punishes this coldly and checks 100 over triple 20 and tops.
9:06 p.m
Dolan breaks with 13 darters
Dolan puts early pressure on Anderson’s throwing leg with two 140s. He can’t keep up. Dolan is at 130 after nine darts, while the Flying Scotsman still can’t get into the finish area. Dolan has 32 points remaining, Anderson remains without a triple again and the History Maker safely checks for the next break with the first dart on double 16.
9:04 p.m
Dolan equalizes
After twelve darts, Dolan is on 96 points, while Anderson is still on 161 points. The History Maker faces Tops and Anderson on double 12. Dolan checks 40 points with the second dart over double 10 to make it 1:1.
9:00 p.m
Anderson happy for the first leg
Both are on par until Anderson plays down to 64 points with a 123. Dolan takes on the big fish and Anderson misses another dart on double 16 after single 16, single 16. Dolan doesn’t take out the big fish, but there is double trouble with the Flying Scotsman, who puts all three darts past double 16. There is a break opportunity for Dolan, who, after triple 18, misses two darts on double 8 and double 4 for a 70 finish. Anderson is there and checks 16 points with the second dart over double 4.
8:57 p.m
Anderson not yet in the game
Brendan Dolan got off to a great start in this round of 16 and won the first set 3-0. The Northern Irishman averages almost 96 points and has finished well so far (75% double rate). Experienced Anderson has not yet found his way into his scoring, which is confirmed by his average of 84.47 points. In addition, the Flying Scotsman cannot use the one dart on doubles in the second leg. After a short break, Anderson’s throw-off set continues.
8:55 p.m
Dolan in a hurry to win the set
Anderson takes the lead with his first 180, but then remains without a triple. Dolan gets 106 points remaining with a 140, while Anderson can only play down to 120 points. The History Maker misses the 106 finish after T20, S14 on the D16 and Anderson also cannot bring 120 to 0. After the first dart is in the triple 20, he misses the single 20. Dolan doesn’t need to be asked twice and hits the double 8 with the first dart.
20:52
The History Maker breaks to 2-0
While the Ally Pally gets into the mood, the game starts rather slowly. Dolan can’t keep up with the scoring, but then brings himself to 83 points remaining with a 140. Because the Flying Scotsman can’t check 61 over S17, S12 and D16, Dolan comes up again and punishes it coldly: breaks via triple 17 and double 16 he Anderson early!
8:49 p.m
First leg goes to Dolan
Dolan opens the encounter and scores well. After twelve darts, the Northern Irishman has 76 points remaining, while Anderson is not yet in the finishing area. The History Maker safely takes out 76 over triple 20 and double 8 and takes the lead with a 14-darter.
8:36 p.m
Let’s start with the evening session
Dolan with “I’m shipping up to Boston” and Anderson with “Jump around” took the Ally Pally stage. A player must win four games to advance to the quarterfinals. Game On!
20:12
Anderson has been very solid so far
The Scot, who has regained his strength in 2023, has shown consistently strong performances at this year’s World Cup so far. Both the Australian Simon Whitlock and the Croatian Boris Krcmar had no chance against the Flying Scotsman. In both games, Anderson averaged around the 100-point mark and also fired a few 180s into the board (five against Whitlock, nine against Krcmar). The current number 21 in the world rankings goes into the game as the clear favorite. However, Anderson himself admits that he doesn’t like playing against slow players. Among other things, Price couldn’t cope with Dolan’s typically slow style of play and sometimes despaired of the Northern Irishman. It remains to be seen how the two-time world champion copes with Dolan’s pace today.
20:12
Will Dolan pull off another coup?
With the surprise victory over fifth seed Gerwyn Price, Brendan Dolan reached the round of 16 for only the second time in his 16th World Cup participation. The “History Maker” played a strong game against the Welshman and repeatedly pulled the plug on Price with nerve-racking checkouts. Already in round two, the number 28 of the Order of Merit showed strong nerves: against compatriot Mickey Mansell he went to the sudden death decider with 5:5 legs in the deciding set. The Northern Irishman won it and crowned the victory with success over Price. Dolan scored 95.73 points on average. Can Dolan also tease “The Flying Scotsman”?
20:11
Three more round of 16 rounds
Welcome to the evening session of the 13th World Cup day! The last three rounds of 16 are coming up before the quarter-finals continue tomorrow. Price’s conqueror Brendan Dolan first challenges Gary Anderson, then there is the eagerly awaited generational duel between Raymond van Barneveld and Luke Littler. Finally, co-favorite Luke Humphries meets Joe Cullen. Have fun!
