Borussia Dortmund won 15 of the last 18 competitive games against Borussia Mönchengladbach (3L). Since the start of the 2015/16 season, BVB has only won as many competitive games against VfL Wolfsburg (15 out of 17), while Gladbach has not lost as often against any other team during this period.
Borussia Dortmund won 16 of the last 17 Bundesliga home games against Borussia Mönchengladbach, only in the 2013/14 season did the black and yellow lose at home 1-2. Since then, BVB has won the last nine BL home games in a row – the 10th BL away defeat against an opponent in a row would be a negative club record for the Foals (10 previously only from 1982 to 1992 at Bayern Munich).
In the Bundesliga, Borussia Dortmund have been winless in three games (D1 L2), which has only happened once before in both of Edin Terzic’s terms (January 2021 and October 2022 also D1 L2). The Black and Yellows last went without a win in four BL games in a row from October to December 2017 (even the last 8 games under Peter Bosz – D3 L5). Since then, BVB could lose three BL games in a row for the first time.
Borussia Mönchengladbach won three of the last four competitive games (1D), which is more wins than in the first nine competitive games under Gerardo Seoane combined (2). With a 4-0 win against VfL Wolfsburg, Gladbach recently achieved their highest BL win in a year and a half (5-1 against Hoffenheim in May 2022).
Most recently, Borussia Dortmund remained goalless against Bayern Munich for the first time in 56 Bundesliga home games in a row. This BL season, BVB only scored nine goals in their six home games. The last time BVB had so few home goals was in 2014/15 at the time of comparison (back then only 6).
In the 2023 calendar year, Borussia Mönchengladbach conceded 37 goals in 15 Bundesliga away games (more only FC Augsburg in the same period – 39) and only won twice, 3-1 in Bochum in September and 4-1 at Hoffenheim in January. In 2023, Borussia Dortmund scored the most points in the upper house at home (41) and scored the second most times (49, Bayern 54).
Borussia Dortmund have already taken six penalties this Bundesliga season, only 1. FC Heidenheim have taken more (7). Never before have BVB caused so many penalties on the first 11 matchdays of a BL season. Gregor Kobel is also the first goalkeeper and the first Dortmund player (including field player) since Det. Data collection in 2004/05, who took two penalties in a Bundesliga game.
Niclas Füllkrug recently scored for the first time in two competitive games in a row for Borussia Dortmund. In the Bundesliga he was not directly involved in as many goals against any other opponent as against Borussia Mönchengladbach (7 – 4 goals, 3 assists); in the BL preseason he only collected four scorer points against the Fohlen (2 goals, 2 assists).
Gladbach’s Alassane Pléa recently scored in three Bundesliga games in a row for the first time since March 2022 and scored as many goals (3) as in his previous 34 BL games combined. He only managed a longer series of hits in the German upper house in September/October 2018 (four games in a row).
Gladbach’s Franck Honorat was directly involved in two goals in the Bundesliga for the first time (goal and assist). No other player has provided as many assists on goal this BL season as the Gladbacher (39); only Bayern’s Leroy Sané (5.3) surpasses his expected assists value of 4.0.
