Is there a German triple victory?
Friedrich’s bobsled is not the only German sledge that is in the middle of a medal fight today and if everything goes together, all three medals could even go to the German bobsleigh pilots. Johannes Lochner and his brakeman Florian Bauer are in second place with 0.48 seconds behind Friedrich. Christoph Hafer was able to move up to third place in the third race. With a deficit of 1.51 seconds, there shouldn’t be much going forward and the priority is to shake off the competition. He takes just 0.18 seconds ahead of fourth-placed.

Friedrich on course for gold
Germany’s flag bearer Francesco Friedrich was one of the big favorites in the medal race in the two-man bobsleigh and the German can currently fill this role with ease together with brakeman Thorsten Margis. Friedrich had already grabbed the half-time lead yesterday and the German was also fast in the third run. With a running time of 58.99 seconds, he set the new course record. Friedrich doesn’t even sit on his own sled. As it became known, double Olympic champion Friedrich had switched to the sled of European champion Kim Kalicki after a mixed training session. Kalicki therefore had to skip the opening practice today because Friedrich needs her bobsled in the medal decider.
