Direct comparison

On the professional tour, Berrettini and the now 35-year-old Murray only faced each other twice. The last clash took place in 2021 at the Queens Club and, as is well known, went to the Romans, who took home the tournament victory. The first duel in 2019 on hard court was very close to the Briton. It could therefore be a close duel today, in which Berrettini is a slight favorite.

The Resurrection

On the other hand, there is the surprise of the tournament. Andy Murray is now contesting his second final with the new hip, three years after his last final in Antwerp. He started the tournament confidently against Christopher O’Connell and had to stretch himself against Alexander Bublik in the second set for the first time. In the quarter-finals, Stefanos Tsitsipas was number one in the Boss Open. Murray clearly went into the game as the underdog and caused the surprise. In two sentences he outclassed the young Greek. In the semifinals he kept his cool against Nick Kyrgios and rewarded himself with the 70th final of his career.

Berretini is back!

Matteo Berrettini is already back in his comeback tournament after the operation on his batting hand. The Italian, who feels very comfortable on grass, fought his way to the semifinals against Radu Albot and Lorenzo Sonego. The German Oscar Otte was waiting there, which was a real test for the 26-year-old. Both didn’t give much to each other on their own serve and so the tie-break had to bring the decision in both sets. Here Berrettini won the decisive points and, after a three-month break, moves straight into a final. The current number ten in the world also won his last title on grass. In London’s Queens Club, Berrettini emerged victorious in 2021. He then made it to the final at Wimbledon, where he lost to Novak Djokovic in four sets.
