Lafay’s coup in San Sebastian
Yesterday’s Sunday ended with a surprise coup in San Sebastian: Victor Lafay attacked from a lead group of just 24 people with a kilometer to go and overpowered the big favorite Wout van Aert. The 27-year-old Frenchman also gave his team Cofidis their first stage win in 15 years and grabbed the green jersey himself. Adam Yates (UAE Team Emirates) meanwhile defended the overall lead, while his teammate Tadej Pogačar hamstered another eleven seconds in the duel with last year’s winner Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo – Visma) and jumped to second place.

The daily program
On the 193.5-kilometre part from Amorebieta-Etxano to Bayonne, leader Adam Yates will probably have no trouble defending the yellow jersey, as the first pure sprinter stage is on the agenda. On the Atlantic coast of northern Spain, the tour entourage moves to France, crossing the border in the last third of the race. Four mountain classifications in the small categories shouldn’t pose any major obstacles on this path. In the later final there is a special feature: For safety reasons, the race organizer ASO changed the route at short notice in order to avoid a dangerous roundabout.
