15:09
The next favorite
Filippo Ganna is the next athlete to break out of the circle of favorites and rolls down the starting ramp. Now it could be shown how much Bissegger’s time is worth.
15:04
Good start from Denz
Nico Denz gets off to a good start and the German from the BORA-hansgrohe team is 22 seconds behind Bissegger at 13.3 kilometers. At the finish, he was not entirely happy with his performance at the microphone of the official Vuelta channels. “I’m not satisfied with my performance. I didn’t have the best day, suffered a lot and didn’t reach my performance goal,” said Bissegger. “I didn’t have any legs and I’m not at 100%. Hopefully things will be better. I’m not expecting a win but maybe a top five finish.”
15:01
Johansen comes closer
Julius Johansen from Intermarché – Circus – Wanty is the first athlete to come close to Bissegger after 13.3 kilometers. The Dane is 23 seconds short of first place. 45 riders have already got through at this point.
15:00
Osborne is on target
Jason Osborne is the next German driver to cross the finish line. Even with him, the gap is big at the end. His tasks are different for the next few days and he probably didn’t put everything into it today.
14:56
Bissegger is through
Stefan Bissegger finished the last meters of the race and as expected, the Swiss is now making a real mark. The EasyPost specialist came through with a time of 28:58 minutes and thus had a clear lead of 1:18 minutes over Page.
14:55
Hugo Page takes the lead
Hugo Page takes the lead at the finish. The Frenchman from Intermarché – Circus – Wanty crossed the finish line in 30:16 minutes. But how long does his time last? Bissegger doesn’t have much left to do towards the goal and is currently in the lead.
14:53
Ballerstedt and Heiduk finish
Maurice Ballerstedt and Kim Heiduk are among the 16 riders who have already completed their day of racing today. However, they are already a long way behind. However, neither of the two should have squinted at a top result, because their strengths lie in other areas.
14:51
Nobody gets to it
At 13.3 kilometers, Bissegger’s time remains the mark to beat. So far, none of his competitors have come close to the Swiss man’s set time. New second behind him is Thomas De Gendt from Lotto-Dstny.
14:48
46 athletes started
In the meantime 46 have started. There are 115 more to come. The last one will be Sepp Kuss at 5:02 p.m. Bissegger continues to set the tone on the track.
14:40
Bissegger at 13 kilometers
Bissegger is considered one of those who could set the first real benchmark. After 13.3 kilometers, the Swiss climbed to the top of the list of results.
14:40
Davy takes the lead at the finish
At the finish there is a new leader in Clément Davy. However, not many drivers have made it through here. So there should be some movement in the next few minutes.
14:37
Hugo Page leads at halftime
Hugo Page from the Intermarché – Circus – Wanty team took the lead in taking the intermediate time. The Frenchman needed 15:40 minutes for the first 13.3 kilometers.
14:34
The first time at the finish
Callum Scotson has completed the 25.8 kilometers and with a time of 31:49:50 minutes he sets the first mark of the day. But he certainly won’t be able to stay at the top for long.
14:31
Ballerstedt far back
Maurice Ballerstedt is already a long way behind after taking the intermediate time. He is over a minute behind Clément Davy, who is leading there. As expected, Heiduk does not play a major role in the time trial either.
14:25
Bissegger started
The Swiss Stefan Bissegger is in the running. The EF Education-EasyPost rider was crowned 2022 European Individual Time Trial Champion and is sure to be among those setting the first more serious benchmark today. He is followed by the next German driver, Jason Osborne. Meanwhile, when taking the intermediate time, Davy took the lead with 16:02 minutes.
14:21
In the meantime already undercut
It doesn’t take long for Scotson to undercut the intermediate time. With a time of 16:12 minutes, Jimmy Janssens from the Alpecin – Deceuninck team now leads the intermediate time.
14:18
First timing
Callum Scotson has meanwhile overtaken the split time at 13.3 kilometers. He sets a time of 16:29 minutes.
14:17
Nine national champions
A total of nine national champions in the individual time trial are at the start today. Among them Eric Fagundez, who just walked down the ramp, who won the championships in Uruguay. The German time trial champion, Nils Politt, is not at the start of the Vuelta.
14:12
First German driver
The first German drivers are now on the track with Maurice Ballerstedt (Alpecin – Deceuninck) and Kim Heiduk from Team Ineos. They are not among the favorites today. In the meantime, no starter has gone through.
14:07
Birthday child Oliveira
Team UAE’s Rui Oliveira is the next rider to set out and cover the 25.8km. Could gift himself with a good result here. The Portuguese celebrates his 27th birthday today.
14:05
Javier Romo gets out
A driver dropped out before today’s stage. Javier Romo from the Astana Qazaqstan Team will not start today. There are now five drivers on the track.
14:01
Let’s go!
It’s all set for the Vuelta individual time trial and Team Jayco–AlUla’s Callum Scotson is the first rider to hit the track. The start is initially at an interval of one minute. The top 20 in the standings start at a two-minute interval. The first athlete to set a serious benchmark is likely to be Stefan Bissegger. It starts at 2:25 p.m.
13:55
A look at the overall rating
Before today’s stage, Sepp Kuss from Jumbo-Visma wears the red jersey of the overall leader, but he should have a hard time defending it throughout the day. Marc Soler (UAE Team Emirates) is 43 seconds back while Lenny Martinez is 1:02 back. Remco Evenepoel follows in fourth place with 2:24 minutes and five seconds behind Primož Roglič. Jonas Vingegaard, seventh in the Vuelta, has 2:35 minutes to catch up.
13:42
The decisive stage?
Today’s individual time trial could well lead to a situation in which things get mixed up in the overall standings of the Vuelta today. The current leader Sepp Kuss is considered a mountain specialist and his direct pursuers could also lose a lot of time on the just 25 kilometers. The newly crowned time trial world champion Remco Evenepoel is one of the hot favorites for the 10th stage of the Vuelta a España 2023. His challenger is the Jumbo Visma duo of Jonas Vingegaard and Primož Roglič, whose flat profile doesn’t suit them as well as Evenepoel. In addition, Filippo Ganna, João Almeida and Juan Ayuso must also be taken into account.
13:34
Today’s task
The start and finish of the 25.8 kilometer route is Valladolid. The profile is practically flat, with a small climb of 500 meters at the beginning, which will not be decisive for the end of the stage. The entire time trial takes place within the city and the only split time will be taken at 12.5 kilometers on the Paseo de Zorrilla.
13:28
Welcome!
Hello and welcome to the tenth stage of the Vuelta a España 2023. Today is the only individual time trial of the tour. At 2:01 p.m. the first participant goes on the course!
