Around this time, polling stations will open for the third day in a row where it is possible to vote for municipal elections. It was also possible to vote on Monday and Tuesday, at about 1,700 polling stations. Most people are not expected to vote until Wednesday, with some 8,800 polling stations opening.

Early voting on Mondays and Tuesdays has been made possible due to corona. People in fragile health could choose to vote on one of these days, as they are much quieter than Wednesday.

04:00 – Nearly 13.6 million people can go to the polls
Nearly 13.6 million people will be allowed to vote in this year’s municipal elections. 334 of the 345 municipalities participate and in total there are 8235 council seats to be allocated.

In order to promote the spread of voters, the polling stations are open for three days, just like last year during the elections to the House of Representatives. On Monday and Tuesday voters could already go to more than 1700 places, Wednesday there are around 8800. Most polling stations are open between 07:30 and 21:00. Face masks are not mandatory in the polling stations and there is no need to keep 1.5 meters away. However, the municipalities are setting up the premises in such a way that 1.5 meters can be kept and extra hygiene measures are taken.

The third day of the municipal elections starts. Last Monday and Tuesday it was already possible to vote in about 1700 places, but most voters are expected to vote on Wednesday, when about 8800 polling stations are open.

Most polling stations are open between 7:30 AM and 9:00 PM, but there are also quite a few that open earlier. The earliest is Castricum: a polling station has already opened there at midnight, in Captain Rommel’s Garden.

00:01 am: CDA leader Hoekstra does not resign in case of bad election results
If the results of the CDA municipal elections are disappointing, party leader Wopke Hoekstra will not resign. In the Op1 program he says that his leadership will not be under pressure if a disappointing result.

According to a poll by I&O Research at the end of February, local CDA departments are heading for a defeat. According to the poll, the party now only gets 6 percent of the vote nationally, compared to 13.4 percent in 2018. However, the February poll was already somewhat better than that of January. Then the CDA polled just over 5 percent of the vote nationwide.
