With some cynicism you can say that FC Volendam can get used to playing on Friday evenings tonight. After all, most matches in the first division are played on Fridays. But the bottom of the league has not yet given up hope of not being relegated. Cup finalist NEC is the opponent tonight. Telstar takes action in the first division. The Velsen residents will compete against Roda JC in their own stadium. Both matches can be followed on NH Radio from 7 p.m.
Of course, FC Volendam does not want to say goodbye to the Premier League. The difference with the other clubs dangling at the bottom is not yet insurmountable. However, the results of Volendam’s last matches and the game shown provide little support for the desired resurrection.
However, the people of Volendam are also staying after the hopeless 0-4 home defeat against SC Heerenveen combative. “We’re certainly not going to give up,” said captain Damon Mirani. Trainer Regillio Simons also believes that the battle is not yet lost. “I see every match as a new opportunity.”

NEC reached the final of the KNVB Cup last Tuesday after extra time. Naturally, this was celebrated and the question is to what extent the people of Nijmegen have recovered from all their efforts. NEC, seventh in the Premier League, submitted a request to the KNVB to move the match against Volendam to Saturday, but the football association did not agree.
Spectacle piece
The mutual meeting earlier this season was one of the most spectacular duels in the Premier League. Just fifteen minutes before the end the score was 1-1, after which Milan de Haan gave Volendam the lead. Magnus Mattsson’s penalty made it 2-2 in injury time. That wasn’t the end of the cake. Calvin Twigt seemed to give Volendam the three points in the 96th minute, but two minutes later Koki Ogawa equalized again. Final score: 3-3.
FC Volendam – NEC starts tonight at 8 p.m. Erik-Jan Brinkman reports.

While things didn’t work out in Volendam, Telstar has found its way up after the change of trainer. Last Monday Telstar won 3-0 when visiting Jong Ajax. Under the leadership of the new coaching duo Uli Landvreugd and Anthony Correia, seven points were taken from three games.
Top team Roda JC
Whether the Velsen team can add a match to that undefeated series will be a challenge. Roda JC is number two in the first division. Last week, leader Willem II was defeated 3-2 in Tilburg and the Limburgers are fully competing for promotion to the Premier League. Telstar lost 3-0 in Kerkrade.
