“It was very exciting and we didn’t expect her to be able to play. But the medical staff and Daphne herself worked hard to get her ready. We are happy with that,” says national coach Andries Jonker about goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar.
Jonker was succinct about the choice to keep Jacintha Weimar, who replaced Van Domselaar against the Belgian women, out of the selection. “I know I’m hurting her, but this is the best for the team.” Weimar made a big mistake in the 93rd minute in the match against the Belgians, causing the Dutch team to lose 2-1.
