But Wüst is far from alone in hunting for gold. The almost unbeatable Miho Takagi is the absolute top favourite, Francesca Lollobrigida will only want more after she already won silver in the 3 kilometers on Saturday, Antoinette de Jong is chasing revenge after that failed distance and there are more privateers on the coast. Because Brittany Bowe (US), Ragne Wiklund (Norway), Ayano Sato (Japan), Elizaveta Golubeva (Russia) and Ivanie Blondin (Canada) are also names to keep an eye on.

Marijke Groenewoud
The first ride after the mop was not a success for the Dutch during the first Olympic days. Both Antoinette de Jong (3 kilometers) and Jorrit Bergsma (5 kilometers) drove far from the desired result.
Groenewoud got off to a great start and had no use for the Chinese Qi Yin who drove against her. Still, she had to give up in the penultimate lap compared to the fastest skater for the mop, Evgeniia Lalenkova, but she eventually beat the Russian by seven tenths: 1.54.97.

For Groenewoud, the most important part will come later in these Games when she arrives at the mass start for the Netherlands together with Irene Schouten.
Antoinette de Jong
Antoinette de Jong wanted to take revenge for her moderate 3 kilometers from last Saturday, on which she finished eighth. De Jong opened faster than Groenewoud and also had an almost perfect crossing after just under a kilometer in the back of Nadezhda Morozova.
Nevertheless, the difference between De Jong and Groenewoud remained small until the last meters. In the end she was just faster than her compatriot with a time of 1.54.82.
Ireen Wusto
The most successful Dutch Olympian of all time came into action immediately after De Jong. Ireen Wüst had an opening that was equal to that of De Jong in the hundredth, but Wüst’s first round was stronger. She then also had a great crossing thanks to Ivanie Blondin, after which she set a low 29’er as an intermediate round.
In the final lap she went on well and finished in a thick Olympic record of 1.53.28, with which she was one and a half seconds faster than Antoinette de Jong.
