Israeli minister threatens more attacks on Lebanon: ‘They are playing with fire’

An Israeli attack on Lebanon killed four people on Saturday. This is what both the Israeli army and the Lebanese Ministry of Health say. On Sunday, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz threatened more and more intense attacks on southern Lebanon.

According to Lebanese media, a car was the target of the deadly drone strike. Four people were killed and three others were injured. The target of Saturday’s attack was a member of Hezbollah’s Radwan forces, the Israeli military claims. “The man was allegedly involved in the procurement of weapons and the reconstruction of Hezbollah’s terrorist infrastructure in southern Lebanon,” the army said.

Israel now wants to step up the attacks, according to its own words, to defeat Hezbollah. “The Lebanese government’s commitment to disarm Hezbollah and expel it from southern Lebanon must be fully fulfilled,” the Israeli minister said in a statement. Katz further claimed that the pro-Iranian group is “playing with fire” and that “the Lebanese president is dragging his feet.”

There has been a ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel since November 2024. Yet the Israeli army continues to attack Lebanon.

The Lebanese government had adopted a US plan to disarm Hezbollah in August. The Iranian-backed militia must surrender its weapons by the end of the year. Hezbollah has not yet agreed to this timetable.
