Ajax setup

Noussair Mazraoui returns to Ajax’s basic formation. The right back has recovered from a knee injury and will kick off the game against SC Cambuur at 8 p.m.

Nicolás Tagliafico also has a starting spot. He replaces the suspended Lisandro Martínez. Tagliafico starts as left back and Daley Blind moves to the center of the defence. Edson Álvarez is missing from Ajax. As a result, Davy Klaassen returns to midfield.

Jurriën Timber is also part of the selection but will start on the bench, just like Brian Brobbey who is fit again and goalkeeper Przemyslaw Tyto, who was recruited last week. Brobbey was injured in January during a match against PSV.

Ajax setup: Onana; Mazraoui, Schuurs, Blind and Tagliafico; Klaassen. Berghuis, Gravenberch; Anthony, Haller and Tadic.

Henk de Jong

Despite the fact that the Frisians have lost four of the last five games in the Eredivisie, the team is in eighth position. Cambuur will have to do without trainer Henk de Jong for the rest of the season. On Thursday it was announced that 57-year-old De Jong is suffering too much from the cyst that was previously found in his head. The trainer will focus on his recovery in the coming period.

Ajax hopes to refuel confidence for the Champions League clash with Benfica. That game is scheduled for next Tuesday in Amsterdam. Earlier it was 2-2 in Portugal.

The main challenger of Ajax for the national title, PSV, will only come into action on Sunday when it visits FC Utrecht. The other clubs active in the Conference League – AZ (FC Twente home), Feyenoord (PEC Zwolle-away) and Vitesse (Heracles Almelo-away) – also play on Sunday.

There are also a few interesting matches with a view to the play-offs, such as Sparta Rotterdam – Go Ahead Eagles on Saturday and Fortuna Sittard – Willem II on Sunday. It was restless for the Tilburgers this week, after trainer Fred Grim was fired and technical director Joris Mathijsen was put on hold.
