Central Drenthe is today central to the series of RTV Drenthe election debates. Eight party leaders will debate two themes: the odor nuisance from the ETP site near Wijster and the question of how Central Drenthe remains attractive for young people to live in.
The party leaders are discussing whether 40 percent of the new construction should consist of social housing, so that it remains attractive for young people to stay in the municipality. The other issue is the amount of odor nuisance around the ETP site near Wijster. These include Attero and chicken offal processor Noblesse. Should the municipality intervene more vigorously?
The three largest parties in Midden-Drenthe, PvdA, VVD and the CDA, are all members of the council, supplemented by Municipal Interests. The opposition consists of the parties Municipal Interests Smilde-Beilen-Westerbork, D66, ChristenUnie and GroenLinks.
