The British rock band Blur was not heard from for seven years. Now a comeback has been announced: According to the British newspaper “Sun”, they should give a concert in London’s Wembley Stadium. An exact date is not yet known – but neither is a year.
Because: The concert is supposed to take place for the 30th anniversary of their third album PARKLIFE, which was released in 1994. And that would be almost exactly two years away.
Most recently they released THE MAGIC WHIP in 2015 and several singles before that. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland the record reached the top 5. In the UK, it even debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, making it Blur’s sixth number one album. 100,000 copies were sold – THE MAGIC WHIP was certified gold.
Blur are “fully involved and clean up their schedules”
The Britpop group itself has yet to announce the show. An insider is said to have revealed the upcoming event to “Sun”. “Britpop fans will want to shout this from the rooftops – Blur are back. We’ve been talking about this for a long time and now it’s becoming a reality. Their plans are being kept top secret but there is a concert at Wembley Stadium to coincide with the 30th anniversary of their second album ‘Parklife’. It’s all amazing exciting and the band is in full swing, cleaning up their schedules to get going again,” the unidentified source said.
Blur consists of Damon Albarn (vocals, keyboards), Graham Coxon (guitar), Dave Rowntree (drums) and Alex James (bass). Albarn is also a co-founder of Gorillaz, who released three albums during Blur’s hiatus, as well as their latest single, “Cracker Island (feat. Thundercat)”. Just a week after the song’s release, it was announced on Twitter that the track had reached ten million streams on Spotify.
