The submarine ‘Titan’, which has been missing in the North Atlantic since Sunday morning, is being searched with all its might. There are five people on board who, according to an estimate by the US Coast Guard, will have oxygen until noon tomorrow. – The submarine ‘Titan’ of OceanGate Expeditions has been since Sunday morning missing somewhere near the wreck of the Titanic. The famous shipwreck is located in the North Atlantic some 400 miles off the Canadian coastline, 3,800 meters below sea level.
– 1 hour and 45 minutes after departure it became Contact with the submarine lost. Normally the expedition takes 8 to 10 hours: about two hours to descend, about four hours on site and about two hours to get back up.
– There are five people on board, including the British billionaire and adventurer Hamish Harding (58) and the British-Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman. Also the French submarine pilot Paul Henry Nargeolet is on board and the CEO of OceanGate Expedition himself, Stockton Rush.
– There’s a big one investigative– and rescueaction busy who focuses in an area of approximately 20,000 square kilometers, that is one area one and a half times as big as Flanders.
– It’s a race against time: the oxygen on-board runs down. At 5 a.m. Belgian time on Wednesday morning, the authorities estimated that the submarine still had about 30 hours of oxygen on board, or until Thursday afternoon.
– It’s too early to tell what there happened is. There are everywhere debris on the ocean floor, which makes it dangerous. Another possibility is that there is one leak originated in the hull of the submarine. In that case, the prospects are not good for the occupants.
The Titanic
The famous ship Titanic would make its maiden voyage on April 15, 1912 from Southampton, England, to New York. The ship, considered unsinkable, was the largest ocean liner in operation at the time. But during the journey things went wrong: the ship hit an iceberg and sank. More than 1,500 people were killed in the drama. In 1985, the wreck of the Titanic was discovered off the coast of the Canadian province of Newfoundland, at a depth of 3,800 meters.
