A special story of Klaas Boomsma, the brother of Arie Boomsma. He struggled with alcohol and drug addiction and was in an addiction clinic for that. “The marathon is always a celebration for me,” says Klaas, who has run 29 marathons (8 of which in Amsterdam) in his life. “At the end of 2011, I started running in an addiction clinic. Running helped me regain my self-esteem. The marathon gave me goals to work towards. That was very important for me in the initial period after the clinic.”
