Live blog nitrogen protest: blockades at distribution centers and German border

Farmers had previously announced “the whole of the Netherlands would be shut down” out of dissatisfaction with the cabinet’s nitrogen plans. They have called on each other to take action at the airports, distribution centers and the port of Rotterdam. Little is known about the plans. The police and Rijkswaterstaat have called on people to get on the road well prepared and to keep an eye on the current situation on the road.

The farmers set out from various places in Drenthe. Columns of tractors drove from Spier, Oosteinde and Vledderveen near Mussel to the distribution centers. Many tractors have Dutch flags attached that hang upside down. Text boards with ‘help’, slogans that promote the interests of farmers and that target The Hague politically, are also on display.
