The new year has started festively! Thanks to the bad weather, several cities – such as Hassel, Ostend and Ghent – canceled the fireworks shows on New Year’s Eve. In addition, many municipalities have a ban on fireworks for private individuals. That didn’t stop many revelers from shooting a flare into the air, it turns out. The fireworks show went ahead in Brussels and Antwerp. More than 140 and 30 people were arrested in these cities respectively. In the capital, three people were also injured due to fireworks.
