It appears not to be that easy to find a successor to former mayor Michiel Pijl. There are too few applicants who meet the profile. And so the application procedure for a new mayor in Drechterland has now been stopped.
After consultation with the confidential committee of the Drechterland municipal council, it turned out that the number of applicants is too limited to continue with the application procedure. “In order to arrive at a good nomination that leads to an optimal choice of mayor, the confidential committee needs more appointable candidates,” a spokesperson for the province said.
King’s Commissioner Arthur van Dijk has informed outgoing Minister Hugo de Jonge (Home Affairs and Kingdom Relations) of the situation. At the beginning of February, De Jonge announced that the search for new mayors in the Netherlands is becoming increasingly difficult.
The Drechterland municipal council will establish a new profile at a later date, after which the procedure will be resumed. Van Dijk has acting mayor Pieter Dijkman asked to stay longer.
