“Little impact as a councilor”
Sometimes they do this because they are moving, but also often out of disappointment. Karien Vanthuyne also recently resigned as councilor in Houthulst.
Karien Vanthuyne stepped down from the Houthulst city council. She wants to give someone else a chance after 9 years. However, she wants to get things moving. This is often frustrating for the opposition. Nearly half of all councilors say they have little impact.
“We are actually being sent off with a bunch of stuff. The next time the item comes on the agenda, it has already been fully realized. Then we can do nothing but approve or remember it completely. It cannot be otherwise. often frustrating.”
And yet the fire often continues to smolder. Karien therefore does not rule out a comeback.
“I think you’re so crazy because you want to realize things for people. Actually, it should be that you pull the same rope together. Much more could be achieved.”
