This little friend can hardly wait to finally explore the big, wide world.
Again and again, Mishmi-Takin Benny escapes from his enclosure in the zoo. Benny (will be three weeks old this Sunday) is still small enough to slip through the bars. “Within the first month, there will come a day when he can no longer easily fit through the fence,” says Tierpark spokeswoman Svenja Eisenbarth.
Benny is not too brave. As soon as he gets too far away from Brother Bono (2), he quickly runs back.
Despite his curiosity, the Mishmi Takin doesn’t get very far on his excursions. They don’t lead him to the visitor area, but to an area between the animal enclosures.
In terms of lifestyle and appearance, Mishmi takins are a mixture of many bovids – hence the name beef chamois or wildebeest goat.
They are fairly sure-footed on rocky terrain and can be found in the Himalayas at altitudes of up to 4500 meters.
