List of coach candidates getting smaller

Mike Büskens is aiming for promotion to the top flight with second division club FC Schalke 04. No matter how the season ends in sporting terms, the interim coach then moves back into the second row. The royal blue considerations have therefore been in full swing for a long time, but the list of possible new head coaches is getting smaller and smaller.

S04 sports director Rouven Schröder and his staff are looking for a new trainer who will take over the sporting skills from the new season. After eight different coaches have been on the sidelines for the traditional Gelsenkirchen club, including Büskens, in the past five years, the next one should definitely work out in the long term.

“The one who follows Buyo has to be really good,” said Schröder clearly a few weeks ago.

Until recently, Stefan Leitl from SpVgg Greuther Fürth was considered a hot candidate for Schalke. But Leitl is probably drawn to Hannover 96, majority shareholder Martin Kind has already confirmed the interest of Lower Saxony. According to media reports, the Knappen were among those clubs that had asked the 44-year-old coach.

Three less coach candidates at Schalke

According to “WAZ”, the thought game of signing Thomas Letsch has apparently been settled. The coach of the Dutch first division club Vitesse Arnheim only wanted to accept in the event of promotion to the Bundesliga. Since the decision about promotion could only be made on the last day of the game, given the tight race, this change will obviously not come to fruition.

In addition, S04 has to remove two other names from the list: Sandro Schwarz and Bartosch Gaul. Schwarz is still under contract with the Russian club Dinamo Moscow, Gaul is currently in charge of the second team of FSV Mainz 05.

One thing is clear: the new Schalke coach will work with Mike Büskens next season. This has already been clarified internally by those responsible.
