Razzouki (49) was the big absentee in the controversial process for a long time. He was located in February 2020 and arrested in Colombia, where he is said to have been hiding for some time. He was extradited to the Netherlands in December last year. The substantive trial of the other sixteen suspects had then been going on for almost a year, after a long series of preliminary hearings. The court is trying to catch up with the handling of the files against Razzouki. The Public Prosecution Service accuses him of involvement in three of the six murders that are under discussion in Marengo. Two of Razzouki’s brothers are also suspects in the case.

In March, Razzouki made his first public appearance in the bunker. He then indicated that he had no intention of making a statement or answering questions. “I have no interest in saying anything,” he said at the time. Razzouki has had two new lawyers for several months, who were tasked with understanding a huge file in record time.

The trial is approaching a tentative climax. From June 8, the Public Prosecution Service will set out the evidence in a final argument lasting a total of nine days. That story will culminate in the criminal demands against the suspects. The evidence mainly consists of a gigantic amount of communication between the suspects themselves. In addition, the statements of star witness Nabil B. play a crucial role.
