Linkin Park have started a promotional countdown. On their homepage linkinpark.com is emblazoned with a button reminiscent of Windows operating systems from the 1990s, after clicking on “Okay” one can supposedly download a “free copy” called linkinpark-numb.exe. Anyone who was old enough to use computers at the time remembers: .exe files are executing programs that can be used, for example, to start a game if the source is reputable. If the source is unknown, it is better not to click on it, it could be a trojan, malware or other spam.

If you trust Linkin Park and still click “Okay”, you will actually receive a short message that the browser has detected a problem and needs to be restarted, followed by the display DETECTED_MEMORY_CORRUPTION_LiNkiNgPaRk-nUmB.exe and a countdown, which is currently – as of January 30, 2023 , 1:16 p.m. – Two days, seven hours and 43 minutes to go. What happens after that remains speculation. Linkin Park themselves have not yet commented on this, only pointed it out on their social media channels.

Linkin Park’s second album METEORA was released on March 25, 2003, almost exactly 20 years ago. “Numb” was the third single release at the time. The record still drew on nu-metal elements, but also increasingly on hip-hop and rapcore. She made it to number 1 in the German charts, where she stayed for a total of 84 weeks. Linkin Park continued to rise to become one of the most successful rock bands of their generation.

Linkin Park’s career experienced a break in 2017. Shortly after the release of their seventh album ONE MORE LIGHT, singer Chester Bennington died, he committed suicide. The band hasn’t broken up since then, but they haven’t made any new music together. Her future remains uncertain. Mike Shinoda, for example, has recorded various solo albums.
