Linkin Park: Mike Shinoda rejects Chester Bennington hologram

In an interview, Mike Shinoda dismissed a possible hologram show featuring the late Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington. The band has been on indefinite hiatus since his suicide in 2017.

In the interview with 94.5 The Buzz, which was published on YouTube on March 10, the guitarist and rapper said that whether he was a fan or a member of the band, he couldn’t imagine doing a hologram show.

“It’s scary. Even if we weren’t talking about ourselves, if we weren’t talking about Chester, which… it’s a very sensitive subject and we would have our opinions on how we would portray that. For me, that’s a resounding no; I’m not into it. But even as a viewer, as a fan of another band… I heard for example that ABBA are doing a hologram show and they’re still alive,” he explained.

However, he does not want to dictate to anyone how other bands organize their shows or which concerts fans should go to: “The problem with the internet is that everyone thinks that everything is there for everyone, that everyone can have an opinion. And I think everybody feels like they have to get involved, like, ‘Well, here’s my opinion. That’s what I have to say. And if it’s not for me, if I don’t like it, then nobody else should like it either.’ That’s not the way the world works. If you like something and I don’t, you go and look at it, you go and get it.”

For the 20th birthday of their second album METEORA a will be released on April 7th Anniversary Edition featuring previously unreleased live and demo versions of the band. As a harbinger, the single “Lost” was released for the first time on February 10th, in the music video of which the musicians, including Bennington, are shown in animated form. Plans to reactivate the band or even find a new singer have so far been strictly rejected by the band.
