Tulle and lace, corsages, bras and suspenders – and a lot of naked skin: this is the new fashion from Dolce & Gabbana. What the Italian designer duo is promoting for the spring/summer 2024 season on Saturday afternoon at Milan Fashion Week is likely to cause a lot of attention on the street.
But the all-clear for women: catwalk fashion is not what will later be hanging in stores, and none of this is new for Dolce & Gabbana. Because they have been relying entirely on lingerie for several seasons. It is part of the brand core of the label. Promoting underwear into outerwear is part of the success story of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.
With white collars and inserts, they occasionally contrast the frivolity with a little virtue in their new collection. But even the coats are often transparent. Only massive faux fur jackets cover the skin. Naomi Campbell was the last model in the show to walk the catwalk.
Supermodel at Versace
Donatella Versace also had Claudia Schiffer, one of the legendary supermodels of the 1990s, walking on Friday evening. Thematically, she went back even further – namely to the 1960s with A-line dresses, twin sets, mini skirts, boxy short jackets, clear shapes and sugary pastel colors. The designer also surprised everyone with different interpretations of the classic business suit, for example made of leather with sparkling buttons. Every now and then, denim elements embroidered with silver beads also appeared.
Versace presented its latest women’s collection – along with that for men. In spring/summer 2024, men will wear, among other things, silk shorts with wide short-sleeved shirts, casual suits in pastel colors or baggy trousers with straight-cut coats.
On Sunday there will be one last highlight on the Milan Fashion Week program with the Giorgio Armani show, before it will officially end on Monday with a few purely virtual demonstrations. (dpa)
