Jesper Lindstrom was the last shot of an eventful summer for Napoli. As soon as the opportunity to say goodbye to Lozano materialized, De Laurentiis gave the green light to investing in the Eintracht player, who revealed to the Danish magazine Tipsbladet that he preferred the Azzurri to Liverpool. “The Reds were there too, but how much time would I have had to play? Would it have been smart to go there? I’m a fan of them, so it could have been an insanely interesting experience as well. But if I don’t play, I might as well sit and watch them on tv for another club. Now I’m at an age where I have to play a little football. That’s why I think Napoli is a good change. It’s one of the best clubs in the world and they said I’ll play and I’ll have many chances.”
The emotion of arrival
—
“At first I thought I’d have to stay at Eintracht – continued Lindstrom – then for fair play the club had to sell some players and everything was a bit frenetic. Suddenly I had to fly, pack my bags and say goodbye to Frankfurt. Of course I was surprised that this was possible, because they said it wouldn’t be. But it was good. I couldn’t wait for something to happen.” That something was Napoli. The footballer also recounted the emotions that preceded signing with the new team. “You’re not sure of anything until you sit down with pen and paper in hand. So yeah, I sat down and thought: am I a Frankfurt player or a Napoli player? If it hadn’t worked out and I had still stayed in Frankfurt I would have been happy with that too, because my girlfriend and I had a great time in Frankfurt.”
the heat of Naples

Sometimes the embrace of Naples can prove suffocating. But it is known throughout the world of football that the city reserves a special warmth for those who wear the blue shirt. “Walking on the street is not possible and that’s also why most of the players live outside the city. You can’t go for a walk. You have to cover up, because they attack you with photos. I knew it was like this, especially in Naples because there is only one club in the city. Everyone here grew up with Napoli so it’s an exaggeration but I’ll probably have to get used to it. I think it’s more important to my family when they come to visit that I can’t just come into town after practice and have a cup of coffee and relax. It’s different, but it’s a fun experience.”
