BERLIN (Dow Jones) — Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) is not traveling personally to the meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors of the 20 leading industrialized and emerging countries (G20) planned for Thursday and Friday in Jakarta. This was announced by his ministry Dow Jones Newswires in Berlin. “The Federal Finance Minister will take part virtually in the G20 finance ministers’ meeting in Jakarta,” said a spokesman. Contrary to what was originally planned, according to press reports, the Indonesian G20 presidency is now organizing a hybrid meeting in view of the global omicron wave – in Jakarta and via video connection of many participants.
According to the Indonesian Ministry of Finance, the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic is also on the agenda. In addition to exit strategies to support the recovery and to combat the damaging after-effects of the crisis, topics should also be payment systems in the digital age, sustainable finance, digital financial inclusion and international taxation.
