Linda de Mol sees the viewing figures of her much criticized drama series Five Live drop considerably. Less than 800,000 viewers saw yesterday how her attack on the fake Angela de Jong ended.
Linda de Mol’s new drama series Five Live keeps people busy. The TV queen turns out to use the series to take revenge on the hated Angela de Jong. She dropped a leaden studio light on a fictional version of the TV critic in the premiere episode last week.
Collapsing numbers
This fake Angela, named Ellen Boetzelaer, lay on the talk show table with a bloody head; the splashes were on Linda’s face. Yesterday, in the second episode, it appeared that she was ‘rushed to the hospital where she was operated on’. “Ellen fought for her life there,” it sounded. And now she’s in a coma.
Linda does not keep the viewer glued to the tube with her amateur theater in Five Live. Where the first episode last week scored 987 thousand viewers (20 percent market share), she now sees no less than a fifth of the viewers drop out. Episode two yesterday attracted 793 thousand viewers (17 percent) to SBS 6.
Viewer disapproves
It is clear that the viewer strongly disapproves of Linda’s drama series. The lead-in, Linda’s other program Miljoenenjacht, attracts more viewers. With just under a hundred thousand viewers, that show rises to a top score of 1.5 million (29 percent), good for gold in prime time.
It wouldn’t surprise anyone if Five Live’s ratings drop even further next week. It is all a very strange paradox: Linda makes fun of celebrities without self-relativity in the series, while in real life she also screams bloody murder when a critical note is cracked about her.
‘Sorry for Linda’
Format developer Kirsten Jan van Nieuwenhuijzen, who started his career as one of the first four creatives by John de Mol, believes the fierce criticism of Five Live is justified. “I don’t find it very strong and not very subtle. I think there were high expectations when you know that she made Gooische Vrouwen and Divorce,” he says in Content Wars.
Kirsten Jan, however, also thinks it is sad that Linda is so much on the chopping block. “Actually, the entire media world has gone wild. At the moment it is also true that Linda can hardly do anything right anymore. That’s a bit sad. Basically everything she does is now burned down.”
Rob beats Linda
Linda’s series Five Live was defeated yesterday at half past nine by Matthijs van Nieuwkerk and Rob Kemps. They managed to entertain 1.1 million viewers (22 percent) on NPO 1 with the season premiere of their Chansons program. Opposite Miljoenenjacht, that channel got stuck at 759 thousand viewers (14 percent) for the TV show Aria.
The other prime-time winners were RTL 4’s Weet Ik Veel with 1.1 million viewers (20 percent) on RTL 4, Humberto on Sunday with 643 thousand viewers (17 percent) on RTL 4 and Nieuwsuur with 594 thousand viewers (12 percent). on NPO 2.
