Limmer fair-party tent can still open until 1 a.m.: “It worked”

The marquee at the Limmer funfair can still open until 1 am this year instead of a maximum of 11 pm. Hospitality entrepreneur Caroline Glorie is happy with the decision: “I fought for it and it worked.”

The fairground tent, which belongs to Eetbar Lekker, has been open on Fridays and Saturdays until 1 am for thirty years. But this year, the municipality of Castricum granted a permit until a maximum of 11 p.m. According to Glorie, that would cause problems. After a conversation with Glorie, the municipality of Castricum has decided to let the tent be open longer.

Glorie previously told NH Nieuws: “If the tent closes so early, I have no idea where I should store those 750 people (from the party tent, ed.). The cafe is always packed.”

According to Glorie, the Limmer fair is ‘very busy, also by people from other villages’. “If the tent has to close so early, I foresee a lot of misery.” That’s why the owner started a petition to leave the tent open longer. Last weekend it had already been signed more than 2,000 times.

According to Glorie, this “definitely played a part” in the decision of the municipality to issue a later permit: “Limmen has 8,000 inhabitants. If a petition is signed by 2,000 people, the municipality cannot ignore it”, according to the owner.

New event policy

In its own words, the municipality wanted to ‘stick to the end times that are regulated in the event policy’. In previous years, an exception was made to this policy for the marquee. According to Glorie, ‘the mayor was advised by the security region to close things earlier’.

A municipal spokesperson says that the Castricum events policy, which dates from 2004, ‘needs an update’. It is not yet clear what this means for opening hours (and deviations from them) during events. “For this year, the marquee can use the times of previous years.”

The Limmer funfair will take place this year from Friday 9 to Sunday 11 September.
