In the letter, the VVD members write that “the municipality and provinces have become co-owners of a problem they did not ask for.” Furthermore, the plan of the State Secretary for Asylum and Mirgratie and fellow party member Eric van der Burg to force municipalities to receive asylum seekers has gone wrong. “Municipalities have already indicated several times that the stretch is out and that the cabinet really should get the matter under control itself,” write party leaders. The VVD departments want to limit the asylum flow by means of an asylum stop and speeding up the procedures.
