All that was known about Lil Nas X’s second album after his debut MONTERO, which was released in 2021, was that it was “almost ready”. However, this information, which was also the official announcement, has been around since March 16, 2022. On Monday (February 20, 2023), the superstar revealed a little more on Twitter. Among other things, that the still untitled album would be released “probably in the summer”. The trigger was a meme about the rapper’s release strategy.

In the comments under the post, the 23-year-old then answered a few questions. Alongside the semi-official confirmation of the release date, he also revealed that the previously leaked song “Souf Down Hoes” featuring Saucy Santana would be featured on the album. He did not want to give any precise information about the number of songs. However, the tracklist is probably not fixed yet and he is still in the studio. While there is music he could release, he wants to build “events” around the project. The main part of the work is therefore currently the planning. In response to speculation about a possible first single, he rhetorically asked whether it would be timely enough for fans if it was released during the tour. However, this caused more confusion. So far, only festival appearances have been officially confirmed. From March in South America, the USA and Europe, primarily at events in the “Lollapalooza” series.

plans and their implementation

Overall, fans are skeptical given the schedule. Back in 2021, Lil Nas X announced in response to a tweet from Saucy Santana that they would be releasing a “hit” together for the following summer. “Down Souf Hoes” was not released in the summer of 2022, but not yet. Only three official songs have been heard since MONTERO. “Industry Baby” with Jack Harlow, “Late to the Party” with YoungBoy Never Broke Again and “STAR WALKIN'”, the official single of the League of Legends World Championship. The meme that started the conversation also referred to this low output. However, during various Instagram live streams, there were a number of snippets that may have been taken from songs on the record. They are collected on YouTube.
